ANOTHER STRIKER ON HIS WAY?

Tue May 27, 2014 10:36 am

According to a Sky journalist we're closing in on Adam Le Fondre! I would much rather him than Grabban, he may not have scored as much as Grabban this season but lets not forget he did manage 12 in the Prem mostly from the bench.

Grabban obviously desired to sit on the fence. I love the way we are doing business now, quick swift and no bullshit.
If you don't want to join, it probably isn't right anyway

Guerra, Campbell, Maynard and Mason are 4 strikers more than good enough for this division. Why we are wasting our transfer budget on trying to bring in Macheda and Le Fondre who are no better than what we currently have is mystifying, particularly when we should be concentrating on bringing in the midfield general we are currently lacking.

If you build, they will come.

Cambell probably going , Maynard injury prone , Mason good shout but will he find his form ?

Once we start adding defenders I will be happier

Good to get strikers in early before the mad rush.

I think if Campbell goes, then we should look to bring in a replacement, not the other way around. We have to offload Kenwyne Jones' obscene wages first before adding any other strikers. Maynard's fitness seemed fine for Wigan and with a pre season under his belt, I'm hoping Maynard will be like a new signing for us. We also have Berget to give a different option, although I don't think he's good enough and I would happily see him being shipped out for us to bring a better target man in. But a club in our financial position needs to ship our strikers out first before bringing in any more to further add to our wage bill. Our striker department at present, is an area we don't need to strengthen, so it worries me this is the only area of the team Ole seems interested in at the moment.

Why do so many people think Mason is the answer ? I like him but he is clearly lacking that first 5 yards of pace that is so vital as a striker Prem or top of Championship level.

Malky realised that, as does OGS. Bolton aren't exactly bashing our door down for him despite the fact he seemed to do OK for them.

I would honestly love him to prove me wrong but he hasn't done it consistently at the top level for anyone yet and, at 23/24, he probably should have done by now.

I think the best bet for him and us would be to go on loan to a Championship club where he will start regularly and see how he does. If he scores goals regularly then maybe he can prove people like me wrong but until he tests himself in that way I just can't see him making the breakthrough.

Like you said, Mason did OK for Bolton which is fine for us as a fourth choice striker behind Campbell, Guerra and Maynard. Mason can also play just behind the striker and on the wings, so he's versatile and a useful squad player. He is also the best finisher at the club, although I haven't seen Guerra's finishing ability to compare just yet. We are not in a position to pay obscene wages for a fourth choice striker so having Mason as our fourth choice striker on lesser wages than Macheda and Le Fondre makes perfect sense to me. I believe Mason will come back to us a better player from his Bolton spell and he still has the potential to challenge for a starting place ahead of Campbell, Guerra and Maynard too.

Why is every player signed on obscene wages

Our striking department does need strengthening. We've had a problem scoring goals for a few seasons now. I for one am glad OGS is looking to add up top. Ship a few out, bring in a fresh crop.
