Arsenal prepared to swoop for David Marshall - and hope to beat Tottenham to the Cardiff City goalkeeper
Wenger is considering the £15m-rated Scotsman as replacement for Lukasz Fabianski and is ready to trump rivals Spurs to the player's signature
Arsenal are set to make a surprise move to try to sign Cardiff goalkeeper David Marshall from under the noses of north London rivals Tottenham.
Cardiff value Marshall at around £15million, but that price tag has not put off Arsenal from targeting the 29-year-old as a replacement for Lukasz Fabianski.
FA Cup hero Fabianski has rejected a new contract to stay at the Emirates and is close to completing a free transfer move to Swansea.
That leaves Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger needing a new keeper to put pressure on first-choice Wojciech Szczesny and provide top-class cover.
Wenger has also considered Reading’s Alex McCarthy as his new deputy, but Marshall is emerging as Arsenal’s top target to replace Fabianski and the club are set to firm up their interest with Cardiff.
The telegraph are reporting arsenal are ready to meet our £15m value of him. Now regardless of how much we need him you
can not turn down that much for him. Surely that figure is wrong.

at anywhere near that price, he has to go with our blessing

I would take 9 million let alone 15, I would happily cash in on that.
Mon May 26, 2014 10:04 pm
No way he will move to warm a bench and eat sushi in London
Mon May 26, 2014 10:09 pm
i dont get this WE thing...................as fans WE should want to keep our best players, its not like WE get a cut.

I am concerned that finding a replacement will be impossible. Not just because of Marshall's ability but because of the confidence he gives to the defence.
That said he may want to go and deserves his chance.
That price is bollocks though. For that I would throw in Campbell.

I would take 15 mill no worries, especially if we can pick up a decent keeper for a quarter of that. Re invest the rest in the squad.

If Arsenal really are prepared to pay £15 mill, then let him go now
Mon May 26, 2014 10:35 pm
No one can begrudge him this move.
He deserves to be playing elite football.
Mon May 26, 2014 10:35 pm
£15m? Take him!

missed my point.........WE fans should want the best team possible.........£15 mill is no good to me, hardly like im going to get any.........but if we keep the players i get to see a descent team.............i fully understand sometimes a club might need the money,or a player wants to move..............but why would any fan want o lose a player that they admire JUST BECAUSE its a big fee ????????...ive never got my head around it.............its like living in a council house, the council being offered a huge amount for the house,,and you get all excited at the amount, and say WE cant turn that down.......and end up in a drug infested block of flats...........
Mon May 26, 2014 10:50 pm
The money they get for Marshall ( if he wants to leave).
.
WILL NOT go towards team strengthen !!!!!!
Mon May 26, 2014 10:56 pm

We are 150m in debt. We need to take offers like this. Hes not worth 15m so if there's any truth in it, we have to sell. Time for Moore to step up.

Good price. But ccfc are loosing their best player by far, he saves several point on his own.
Sorry to see him go.
Mon May 26, 2014 11:50 pm
There is absolutely no chance of anyone offering close to £15m for David Marshall
Tue May 27, 2014 12:05 am
Bullshit story. No way Arsenal are paying 15m for a no 2 keeper.

who knows?......how can you strengthen the team by selling your best players?
spurs did spend the Bale money and more...would they be better with bale?

Glad the Royal "WE" are able to make decisions on Marshall's behalf
Perhaps "WE" should consider Marshall's opinion in all this...and it might not be as straightforward as you might think
I've said it before, Marshall (and in particular his family) are HAPPY living in Cardiff and he wouldn't want to go play second fiddle to any other 'keeper whist he has international ambitions with Scotland

you..like me..have no say what so ever in where any transfer money is spent..........WE NEED TO TAKE THIS OFFER..??????
i reallly dont understand anyone wanting rid of a player thats admired and valued.....just because in their mind it will reduce debt..or go towards team strengthening...........the object of the game is to win matches, the better the players the more chance you have.....if you KNEW for fact where the fee would go id understand..but you dont.....
Tue May 27, 2014 5:36 am
all the best in his future......only getting what he deserves....top flight football...

Did you speak to him at the dinner annis. He said he won't move to another club to be a number two as it would affect his international position not playing.
He also said it's his daughters most important year in school and his family are settled in Cardiff.
I believe he will stay especially if the club are looking to bounce back to the premiership
Tue May 27, 2014 6:14 am
got to agree if they offer £15 million then we have to sell

Agreed dont sell him for whatever price
Tue May 27, 2014 7:39 am
Why would he want to go and sit on a bench?
I think he will stay

I've always thought the same. It makes no difference to us fans if he goes for 15mil ( which is bullshit IMO) or 5mil. We don't know where the money is going.
We should always try to keep our best players. Always. And Marshall certainly is this.
Now if he really wants to leave & a big club with Champions League football comes in that's a different matter.
