Manchester United misfit Federico Macheda set to sign for Cardiff in a bid to relaunch his career
May 24, 2014
By Steve Bates
The Italian broke on to the scene with Manchester United in 2009 but has since failed to hold down a first-team shirt
Move: Macheda is heading to Cardiff
Federico Macheda is expected to sign for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer tomorrow after undergoing a medical at relegated Cardiff, writes Steve Bates in the Sunday People.
The Italian striker is out of contract at Manchester United and has been told it will not be renewed. Former United hero Solskjaer wants him to lead Cardiff’s bid to bounce back from relegation.
Macheda said: “I’m only 22 and people forget I’m still very young. When I broke into the first team I was a baby.
“Being at United is great but if you don’t play it’s better if you go somewhere else where you can play every game and have a career.”

Not a bad signing for free.
Scored 10 in 18 for Brum last season and is still only 22.

It's from tomorrow's Sunday paper so I assume the piece is talking about Monday.

Are we finally going about signings the right way? Ole seems to be making shrewd acquisitions, players with goal scoring ability and not throwing money at the problem. I really hope this is the route we go and that it works for Ole, I am hoping this relegation is a learning curve that we will come through wiser and more astute after last seasons signings and shanannigans but hey we are Cardiff City Fc so only time will tell.

10 from 18 in a struggling.brum side. imagine the damage he could do with us. only 22 as well got his best yrs ahead. Ther is no doubt this boy is talented, remember is double against villa for man u. Well happy with this signing, more than grabban.

This is great news. Young, very skilled and on top hes a free agent

If he is in a attacking and dominant side then I'm sure he will be fine.
Do we need all these strikers though?
Guerra
Jones
Campbell
Macheda
Possible Grabban
Mason
Healey

you can sign half the talented players in Europe for free, but if Ole picks a crap line up (eg Gunnerson up front or Campbell on the wing), and change the team every match, we will still be crap.
it is who plays where and how we play is what is important.

46 games would demand a certain rotation. I think a core of 6-7 players and the rest 4-5 would change from match to match. Would this benefit us as a team? I really believe so

Can't wait to start seeing some goals down the CCS again - OGS is going to have us set up really nicely after he's had a pre-season with us.

If Medel and Caulker are away then we need something to plug the hole of we will be seeing lots of goals next season.
May not be cheering every one of them though.

I think we have enough at the back, Cala, turner, Hudson and even Connolly are very good centre backs at championship level. We need a holding midfielder though, preferably a right hard nasty b*stard

Im sure that will happen We have nearly sorted 3 players and its only may. Atleast Ole.has started with positions we have been moaning about for 2 seasons.

If that is your understanding you will be disappointed. There will be a lot of rotation next year. Having 16-17 match fit players is a good thing and makes it a unit with tactical opportunity. It is also a good plan to avoid fatigue.
But great news
A fantastic talent who have struggled for a few years, but is on his way back on top

Agree with this. I voiced concerns last season that (despite our early promotion) we appeared to leave it very late to sign the bulk of our new players

Desperately needed a striker and we're going for some, maybe the philosophy from Tan this season is to just get freebies and loanies in so we have more money to spend if we get promoted next time round?
Hope it's announced tomorrow

I agree with you but, in all fairness to Ole he was given a virtually impossible target when he arrived.
I cant wait for next season now . As far as his signings this last couple of weeks they seem to be superb.

Meh signing for me
Sun May 25, 2014 1:46 pm
I have not seen him that much in the championship but as a United-supporter I think he is/was one of the most overrated players around. I just can't see how he would be an improvement to Campbell or Jones. And as a norwegian, I even think Berget is the better player of the two.

Ole will know what to do with him just like when ole managed the reserves at utd macheda was a beast then and he found some form in champ last season he could be another bothroyd story here never shown his potential till he came here
