Arsenal are set to table a £6m offer for Cardiff’s highly-rated goalkeeper David Marshall, according to reports today.

Lukasz Fabianski is almost certain to leave the club after turning down our latest contract offer and he’s now set to leave on a free transfer when his contract expires next month.

Emiliano Viviano will also return to Italy after his loan spell from Palermo leaving Wojciech Szczesny as our only recognised senior goalkeeper, meaning Arsene Wenger is on the market for at least one new goalkeeper this summer.

Several names have been linked with a move to the Emirates but now it seems the boss is ready to make his move with the Irish Mirror reporting that we’ll test Cardiff’s resolve with a £6m bid for Marshall this summer.

Marshall was a stand-out performer in a poor Cardiff side last season and his heroics between the sticks ensured their relegation to the Championship wasn’t sealed a lot sooner than it eventually was.

The 29-year-old Scot was many pundits tip to make the PFA Team of the Year and it’s going to be extremely difficult for the Welsh outfit to hang on to the highly-rated stopper this summer.

Whether £6m will be enough to persuade them to cash in remains to be seen but it seems like a fair offer to me. I’d happily see Marshall come in as Szczesny’s understudy for next season but I’m not convinced he’d be content at playing second fiddle at this stage of his career.

Is try and push it to £8m. Even at £6m, the board will have to seriously consider taking it as that would be some good business.

As for the team, OGS should be making big noise about keeping Marshal as losing certain key influential players could have a massive negative effect on morale and team dynamics, causing a slide.

If we sell Marshal, then we should definitely keep hold of Caulker. Selling both would be crazy.

No because even though he has a kind of rugged beard, he has a metrosexual tan and looks like he plucks his eye brows. His ruggedness is fake.

6m seems a little low, but between 8-10m seems worth cashing in on. He deserves his chance.

I think £6 million is about right as Marshall has only had 1 season in Premier league and in order for his stock to be reaching 10 to 12 million , he would need another year in PL to prove his quality was no fluke. And unfortunately our club have devalued Marshall because we took the drop to championship never really proving ourselves worthy of being in PL. So if anything we should be angry with ourselves and not the 6 million bids coming in. One man does not make a team.If we stayed in PL another year , then we probably could have sold him this summer for 10 million but £6 with relegation is about right. And I say that with all respect to the efforts Marshall made to try be our savior. xxx

Really don't want to see Marshall leave as he is top drawer. He is worth 10-15 points in a Championship season all by himself and could be the difference to us being promoted or not. However £6 million for the widely recognized best goalkeeper in the Premier League last season is an insult.

I'd like to think this would be an opening gambit by Arsenal.Given that he's comming into his prime a couple of million more is more realistic.
