' Mehmet Dalman held talks last weekend to try to persuade Campbell to stay '

Thursday 22nd May 2014

Cardiff City striker Fraizer Campbell could leave the club this summer after reportedly being targeted by Premier League clubs.

Bluebirds chairman Mehmet Dalman admitted he had held talks with Campbell over the weekend about staying with the club, but reports now suggest that the striker is being chased by as many as three Premier League sides.

Campbell was Cardiff’s top goal-scorer in all competition’s last season with nine goals, and his impressive work-rate and commitment to the cause would make him a valuable asset to any bottom-half Premier League side.

The ex-Manchester United, Tottenham and Sunderland forward joined the Bluebirds in January 2013, and scored seven times to help them reach the Premier League for the first time. But his time in the Welsh capital may now be coming to an end, with West Bromwich Albion supposedly eyeing a deal for the 26-year-old.

Two of Campbell’s former clubs in Hull City and Sunderland are also reportedly interested in his services, as both look to kick on from Premier League survival next season.

It comes as no surprise that Cardiff’s big names are being linked with moves back to the Premier League, with the same report suggesting Craig Bellamy, Steven Caulker and Gary Medel are all being watched.

Cardiff will undoubtedly benefit from having to sell their big-money signings that made their Premier League survival bid, at least on paper, look strong. Sales of the likes of Caulker, Medel and star performer David Marshall will only improve their already substantial summer budget, as Cardiff look to overhaul the squad for more Championship suited players.

The Bluebirds have already sealed the signing of striker Javi Guerra, while Bournemouth striker Lewis Grabban could arrive in the coming week, meaning that Campbell could well be heading for the exit door.

HULL City face some competition if they are to be reunited with striker Fraizer Campbell in the shape of West Brom and Sunderland.

The Bluebirds would like Campbell to stay but the chances of that are looking slim following relegation to the Championship. Campbell knows all about the KC Stadium after spending a season on loan at the Tigers from Manchester United and City have also been strongly linked with a move as they prepare for the Europa League next term.

The fact that it is only bottom half Premier clubs interested says it all. He didn't help us in our relegation battle so what good would he do West Brom or Hull?

Championship is his best level to score goals. A very good Championship player but an average Premier player.

Loved his drive his never give up attitude. But he just hasn't got the finishers touch needed for the Premiere. But would be cracking in the Championship.
