' NO MORE BETTING ON FOOTBALL MATCHES '

Footballers playing in England not allowed to bet on ANY other matches worldwide
By MARTYN ZIEGLER

Thursday 22nd May 2014.

All professional players in English football will be banned from betting on any matches anywhere in the world from next season.
The ruling was ratified at the Football Association's AGM on Wednesday and will apply to any player in the top eight tiers of the English league system, Press Association Sport understands.
It replaces the current rules which only banned players from betting on competitions in which their club was involved.

Ban: Pro footballers playing in England will not be allowed to bet on any matches anywhere in the world

Breach: Dan Gosling was found found to have breached current rules on betting

Tottenham winger Andros Townsend, Newcastle's Dan Gosling - who is to join Bournemouth next season - and Cameron Jerome, who played on loan at Crystal Palace from Stoke last season, are among those to have been found to have breached current betting regulations.

Players will also be prohibited from passing on inside information to a third party who uses that information for betting.

The bit where it says players passing on information made me laugh. It goes on in every sport if they can make money off it.

This is why sportsbetting in the US has never really taken off. They know the dangers it can bring to impartiality. There is no way they can stop match-fixing. Even if they bring in all these laws it will just go underground. It's like terrorism. An idea if you will. You can't eradicate an idea.

They will just get someone else to put the bet on for them. Only deterrent if they are found to abuse the system is a lifetime ban from playing.

Dont think so. Growing problem in Europe for years, and links to organised game fixes will force Uefa to put wheels in motion. When it comes down to it players could choose to play football or place bets, as it should be IMO
