Curry : i tend to stick to the same one, any advice?

Wed May 21, 2014 9:16 pm

I like a chicken madras, half rice half chips , with a nan bread

But, I always have the same, can anyone advise on something that is equally as hot, but I may like also?

Buy the "Hairy Bikers Great Curries " book and make your own. The ingredients are easy to get hold of these days in the World Foods aisles in the supermarkets. Very satisfying when you've made it yourself, and cheaper.

This is true. My old dear makes homeade beefcurry which taste lovely, but then she throws whatevers leftover in containers and puts it in the freezer for how ever long which makes it taste even better. So my tip is, always make to much, and whatever your left over with...freeze it for a few days-week-whatever, get it out, heat it up and taste it...makes it taste 10times better

Try putting a pint of milk in your curry to cool it down

Some good advice here. I find that a good Curry tastes better a day of two after cooking,,,lets all the spices have time to infuse & mature. For that little extra bite, try adding a few grams of Kashmiri Chilli powder in the rest of the ingredients.

There are different types of Ceylon....some use that name for a mild fruity curry.....whereas other Indians have it as a very, very hot curry...one above vindaloo........Phall is exceptionally hot.

Also, try a keema nan bread...(nan bread with minced and spicy lamb inside)

I remember back in about 1987 - me and my mate (RIP) went for a curry in Canton - he always used to say he loved hot curry as it blew his sinuses out !!! - anyway asked the waiter what was his hottest curry and the waiter said "CEYLON" - (but I would not recommend it for you Sir).

He said, ok, I will have a Ceylon - (i had a madras - hot enough for me)

When he got about 2 mouthfuls of his Ceylon down - I swear there was fire coming out of his ears - nose running, eye balls red !!! I tried a teaspoon of it - holy shit, it was like gunpowder.

If Ceylon is the same strength now (not modified for western tastes) - I would not recommend it.

Oh by the way my mate passed away in 2012 - it was not the Ceylon Curry that killed him - just thought I better clear that up as I know what some of you lot are like on here !!!

That's the one! I went for a meal in the one in proth and one of the guys we went with and to have his curry toned down quite a few times because he couldn't cope, but my prawn ceylon was rather powerful too.

Have you tried Wonderful up by the DeWinton for a chinese?

Lamb Achari is nice & tasty and has a bit of a bite, spicy rather than hot. Has pickling spices in it - if you like lime pickle you will love this. A couple of others you might like are Garlic Chilli Chicken or a Korai, if you can find them.
