La Liga clubs chase Medel

Tue May 20, 2014 4:14 pm

Cardiff City midfielder Gary Medel could be set for a swift return to La Liga and two clubs show interest.

The Bluebirds signed the Chile international midfielder for a club record fee last summer, but he was unable to help the south Wales club avoid relegation from the Premier League.

Malaga and Valencia are both keen on signing the 26-year-old defensive midfielder who is keen on remaining in one of Europe’s top leagues.

The arrival of Chinese businessman Peter Lim at Valencia has given them extra financial muscle and they are expected to make a move for Medel, according to a report on Frichajes.net.

Valencia could be set for a bidding war as Malaga too are keen on Medel, although they are less financially secure.

Medel is reported to have already held preliminary talks with Malaga with regards to a move several weeks ago.

He was one of the best players in a poor season for Cardiff and it looks more than likely that a return to Spain is on the cards.

I wish him well, he was great for us the first half of the season, but as soon as Ole came in with his open, disorganised football, Medel had a thankless task.

Overweight, overpaid, overrated...if we can break even on MM's disaster buys I will be happy but ain't gonna happen. Get rid and take anything over £6m for him. Lost f#ck knows how many millions on Corn. Just hope we can get some back on Caulker.

If we can get half back I'd be delighted.

Fair play, you're totally clueless if you don't think Medel was good for us during the first half of the season.

Claude Makelele in his prime would have been made to look an atrocious holding midfielder playing in a team managed by Ole.

Do you really think that Medel could be a constructive, positive midfield force in the Championship?
An honest answer to that question will highlight his limitations as a player! A very poor, Ill-considered signing by Malky.
A signing to fit into his negative tactics for survival in the Premier League, unfortunately, those tactics had been completely rumbled by the other teams in the league before Christmas.
Ole was left with a squad of players berift of the attacking potential required to play the style of football he wished to play.

If we can get any money back on him then it'd be considered a success. Has been awful since November, no stamina, doesn't impose himself and is overweight. I don't know how a football player being out of shape and breath is Ole's fault but whatever. As Polo said, good riddance.

They won't need to run too fast to catch him!

Medel came here, picked up hefty wages and basically took the piss!
