' Memories '

Almost exactly 21 years after they celebrated a league and cup double at the National Stadium in Cardiff, we take a look back at the Bluebirds' class of 1993 and where they are now.

Cardiff City's stars celebrate with the Welsh Cup
It was the season every Cardiff City fan over the age of 30 remembers as one of their favourites.

After decades of decline, Eddie May's class of 1993 had already clinched the Division Three championship in front of 8,000 travelling fans at Scunthorpe before the May 16 Welsh Cup final against Rhyl.

On the day, almost exactly 21 years ago, 16,443 provided the biggest Welsh Cup final crowd since the 1950s and most were cheering the Bluebirds on as they retained the trophy they had won a year earlier against Hednesford Town and completed a historic double in the process.

Phil Stant and Cohen Griffith were the heroes at the National Stadium, scoring all five goals between them as the Bluebirds completed a 5-0 rout against the north Walians, setting up another European adventure that was to feature a showpiece trip to Standard Liege.

But where are they now?

Here Gareth Rogers takes a look at what all 13 members of the squad are doing now.

Gavin Ward – The star keeper is now the goalkeeping coach at Nottingham Forest, having been plucked from Shrewsbury Town.

Robbie James – The Swansea City legend, who was also a huge hit at Cardiff, sadly died on the pitch playing for Llanelli against Porthcawl on February 18. 1998.

Damon Searle – The left back is not player assistant manager for Barry Town as well as being a commercial sales executive in the Cardiff City hospitality team.

Jason Perry – Psycho is probably best known for his work as a BBC Pundit, but also works at Pencoed College, where he is a lecturer and runs the football academy.

Derek Brazil – The former Manchester United defender lives in Caerphilly and works as a sports consultant. Works at Cardiff City in the hospitality team.

Paul Ramsey – Footballer turned foodie, Ramsey, is a director of Decadent Catering in Leicester. He has also worked in hospitality at Leicester City.

Nicky Richardson – Has left football and works as an IT teacher in his native Halifax, where he also coaches a school football team.

Paul Millar – The Northern Irishman is currently assistant manager at Glenavon and has several other business interests.

Phil Stant – The Welsh Cup final hat-trick hero now helps oversee the Youth policies at Football League clubs in his role as development officer.

Nathan Blake – The hard-hitting pundit, who is a South Wales Echo columnist and the voice behind our weekly Blakey's Bootroom show.

Cohen Griffith – The man who scored two goals in the final runs the health and fitness suite at Ystrad Mynach College.

Chris Pike – Gareth Bale's uncle is an excellent cricketer and does work for Glamorgan Cricket Club.

Carl Dale – The free scoring striker now runs his own electrical firm in Newport.

As a 12/13 year old I was impressionable.
