' John Brayford going to be given a chance '

by James Shield
Tuesday 20 May 2014

Nigel Clough, the Sheffield United manager, has admitted it will prove difficult to bring John Brayford and Conor Coady back to Bramall Lane next season, writes James Shield.

The duo impressed after arriving on loan from Cardiff City and Liverpool respectively last term.

Despite refusing to rule-out the possibility of brokering similar agreements, Clough said: “We have spoken to Cardiff about John and they are going to give him a go in the Championship. So, at the moment, he is not available.

“To be fair, we knew when he came in that it was likely to be a four month thing. And then considering how well he did, the chances of sneaking him back in again were slim.

“From Cardiff’s point of view, he is a lad who did exceptionally well in League One so he can do well in the Championship. If it doesn’t work out, he knows where we are.”

Clough, who yesterday completed the signings of Marc McNulty and Jamal Campbell-Ryce, added: “Conor, I think, will be away with Liverpool in pre-season. He is still waiting for a decision as to what they will do over his future.

“He only has a year left on his contract so Liverpool have to make a decision whether to extend it or sell. With loans you can’t guarantee anything so we can’t wait and miss out on other people for the chance he might come.

“If we get the nod off Liverpool and are told he will do pre-season with them but then come here that’s different. But that is not the situation now.”

shocking treatment of a top top defender and I cant understand it.

was one of the best players on the pitch in sheff utd cup run.
and I wouldn't of expected anything less hes rarely at fault which is more than we can say for theo and even fabio, also fabio has a height dis advantage which naturally exposes a team if exploited correctly

He did one of those lip service "I've loved my time here, I'd love to stay, I'll see what the summer brings" that all loan players do.

I think all the players signed by Malky & Moody last summer will be shipped out sooner rather than later.

I remember reading Ole is to give everyone a chance, and it's his way or the highway. He didn't have the luxury to do that at the end of the season, but it seems there is no more excuses for not performing 100%.

Kev is quite physical though.
John unsure on.

I wouldn't be disappointed to see a RB and a come in.

Wasn't Brayford in the championship team of the year 2 years running?

Brayford right back, Fabio left back. Super Kev and Declan John back up. Say thanks to Taylor and KTC and move them on
