A forum for all things Cardiff City

When Solskjaer was manager at Molde he was pretty much free to do whatever he wanted. He was given time and complete trust. The time element quickly became irrelevant as he found success immediately. It is interesting to note what kind of players he brought in under those circumstances as it should reflect his personal preferences. If he deviates from this at Cardiff, it does not necessarily mean than someone else is in control of the transfers. It may just be that Solskjaer is adjusting to the demands of English football and/or Vincent Tan.
Below in this post is a list of all his transfers at Molde. Quick sum up: The average age of the 28 players he brought in at Molde was about 20 years and eight months. The oldest player he brought in was 25 years old. His typical signing, I would say, was a young, stand-out player on a struggling team that could be bought cheaply because of an expiring contract or the selling clubs financial situation. All in all Solskjaer did exceptionally well on the transfer market. The squad he build was almost undisputedly considered the strongest in the league and he made a profit from transfers.
Some of the players rumored in at Cardiff at the moment are not typical Solskjaer signings. Maybe the rumors are false, maybe he has adapted to different circumstances or maybe someone else is pulling the strings. I guess only time will tell.
List: Player name, age at the time and (sometimes estimated) transfer fee. The list may not be entirely exhaustive.

This is, in my opinion, a good policy for signings where we look to bring in starlets or more experienced guys who are approaching end of contract. It makes economic sense and we are likely to sell at a profit and retain if desired. Quite the opposite of recent times where spending high was seen by some as an achievement and something to gloat over.
Thank you for this positive post. It has highlighted some of the strengths of OGS. As long as he doesn't change or have undue pressure behind the scenes!

Interesting. I wouldn't mind him building a team around young talented players tbh.
