Cardiff City’s propaganda won’t fool the fans over the club’s shiny new red seats
by Benjamin James

Monday 19th May 2014.

Vincent Tan is installing red seats into a new stand at Cardiff City.

The season finished last weekend and I think most Cardiff City fans are glad of the break. A season in the sun has drained many and left many feeling exhausted. When many were expecting respite from the antics of their chairman, from the debate about red and blue, it once again reared it’s ugly head.

In the least surprising news since grass was declared green, the new stand being built at the Cardiff City stadium is being fitted with some lovely red seats to go with our lovely red kit. Shock and horror.

Of course, the confirmation of this sparked arguments and outrage on Twitter.

And I don’t think it was because of the red.

Protests against the red have ramped up in recent months.

Cardiff, as much as it really hurts me to say, isn’t a blue club any more. Tan can talk about a u-turn and talk about compromise but in the end it will only be to suit his needs. The fans can keep the blue alive, as they have been doing, but the club, under Tan, is red.

The outrage, rather, came from the comments of director Steve Borley. He said Wembley had red seats despite England wearing white and that the red seats were designed to bring a bit of ‘vibrancy’ to the stadium.

The club need to stop patronising the fans. They’ve spent the past two seasons rubbing fans up the wrong way and instead of being honest and straight with the fans, they continue to dodge the question and give ill-thought out rhetoric.

The red kit wasn’t to maximise commercial reasons. The red kit wasn’t to be more appealing to an Asian market. The red kit wasn’t a business decision.

It was the whim of our chairman; a flight of fancy. Cut the lies and talk to the fans honestly. The red seats are because Vincent Tan wants red seats. It’s nothing else.

To try and appease the fans with utterly ridiculous reasons for red seats will do nothing for fan relations. It’s past the point of no return for me, for many, but the club desperately need to keep the rest on side. Otherwise, the new stand will be nothing but a red elephant.

I've been thinking about moving seats into this new stand because the views will, in my opinion, be fantastic. But since the red seats have been announced there is no chance.

I hope as many fans as possible boycot this new stand and an other Red item i.e. shirts etc.

Only way to give VT and Borley the message.

Well said.

The "red" herring being throw to fans here is the Wembley argument. England won the World Cup wearing red. It is the other main kit colour. The St. George's flag is a Red Cross on a white background.

Cardiff City have BLUE as the main colour and if any other colours should be used, it would be yellow or maybe white.

The red seating in the new stand will, if my predictions are correct, be the one empty because despite the view, most fans just don't want the red seating.

There again, Mr. Tan, you will have your way because that stand will appear more red as the empty seats won't protest!!

Just ringing my mother to make me a couple of nice Blue seat covers.
Hope they stand out if our seats are red.
I have a feeling though, that the red will be the 252 middle seats of the new Premier Club (£5k seat)
They will stand out cos they cant sell them at that price!!!!

Alas, we have been told that the seats will be "mainly red" so it looks like basically a bank of red seats with maybe white to form some sort of lettering or symbols.

I think Tan's obsession with the colour red says more about his own insecurities that anything else. Read below, clearly his Marketing people have screwed up the opportunity to market our strong little, masculine, loyal Bluebird...

Surprised The Echo haven't raised this earlier.

Forgive the Americanisms...it is an American site.

Red is the colour of fire and blood, so it is associated with energy, war, danger, strength, power, determination as well as passion, desire, and love. Red is a very emotionally intense color.

Blue is ... often associated with depth and stability. It symbolizes trust, loyalty, wisdom, confidence, intelligence, ... Blue is considered beneficial to the mind and body... In heraldry, blue is used to symbolize piety and sincerity.

As opposed to emotionally warm colors like red, orange, and yellow; blue is linked to consciousness and intellect. Use blue to suggest precision when promoting high-tech products. Blue is a masculine color; according to studies, it is highly accepted among males.
