' Bid for Cardiff City star will be done within 2 weeks '

Liverpool are to make an initial bid for Cardiff City centre-back Steven Caulker in the next two weeks, [football] direct news understands.

The promising defender signed for Cardiff following the club’s promotion to the top division last summer in an £8million move from Tottenham Hotspur.

Caulker’s displays at the heart of the Bluebirds’ defence were one of few positive aspects of an otherwise disappointing campaign for the club which saw them relegated to the Championship.

The Englishman is thought to be on Brendan Rodgers’ list of new defenders having managed the player in his time at Swansea City where Caulker was on a loan stint.


The Northern Irish manager could be set to tempt Cardiff with a bid of around £10million as Rodgers aims to fight off competition from Spurs, who are also said to be in the run-in to re-sign Caulker.


The 22-year-old played every single minute of City's 38 matches.

We could have had the best defender in the world playing for us and we would have still been relegated. Caulker is a class act and I'm sure if this move goes ahead, Caulker will be one of the best defenders in the Premier League in a few years time.
