Huddlestone > Medel

Sat May 17, 2014 4:40 pm

Medel is massively overrated.

Look how Huddlestone can win the ball back, dictate play, find space and play great balls forward. He is a complete defensive midfielder and much more suited to the modern game. Medel is too one dimensional.

even at the time we were looking at wanyama and medel, a lot of people were talking about huddlestone.

i think everyone agrees we should have signed him. Would he have kept us up? not on his own imo, but we would have had 6m extra to spend on another player.

I really wanted Wanyama. He is a quality player and I believe would have give us more in midfield alongside Whittingham.

yes, he is brilliant, far more mobile than Medel, and also fitness isnt an issue for him though i see hes been injured a bit this season (can happen to anyone though)

But huddlestone, coupled with another 6m player could have been the difference for us this season

Re: Huddlestone > Medel

Huddlestone plays with Livermore and meyler in a flat midfield three

Wanyama players with schneiderling in a defensive midfield pairing

Gary medel played on his own in a lone defensive midfield position with little backup from a lightweight midfield

That's been our problem all season long

You're wrong.
I have only ever had this registered account.
I did change my name to Shinobipony for a time being,
But then changed it back. That was done via Owain.

I think that's why your thinking I have had two.

In hindsight Huddlestone has proved to be a very good buy for Hull, yet when he was signed it was a very big gamble as he had missed huge chunks of the previous seasons through injury:-
06/02/13 - 08/03/13 Knee injury
15/02/12 - 30/06/12 Knee-OP
23/09/11 - 14/02/12 Knee-OP
10/11/10 - 01/02/11 Malleolar injury
16/05/09 - 30/07/09 Knee problems
16/08/08 - 23/08/08 Bone buckling
It would have been too much of a risk for us to have signed him to play the lone defensive midfielders role in a league where there are not the loan windows we were used to in the Championship. As Hull were employing his services as part of a flat midfield threesome it was not as much of a risk.

"Huddlestone type" player is exactly what we needed and what we need for next season.

Bridcutt should've been our first target.

My not a huge fan of Steve Bruce but the way he used the transfer funds he had this summer showed why maybe we needed a more experienced manager over Ole.

Yeah, I think malky deserved a chance but it's a shame we we didn't have someone above him controlling more on what was happening with the wasted funds spent.

Why? He missed a huge part of the season through injury:-
01/09/13 - 28/09/13 Malleolar injury
24/02/14 - 19/04/14 Leg injury
He only played 4 full EPL matches, plus 4 where he went on as a substitute and 4 where he was taken off.

Re: Huddlestone > Medel

I said at the start of the season that we should've got Huddlestone. Got shot down though because we had Medel. Huddlestone is far better than Medel.
