Cardiff City hold talks in bid to keep striker Fraizer Campbell

Cardiff City are holding talks with Fraizer Campbell in a bid to keep the striker at the club.

It is understood the 26-year-old has a release clause in his contract and the Bluebirds are trying to persuade him to stay following their relegation from the Premier League.

Cardiff chairman Mehmet Dalman hopes Campbell will remain at the Cardiff City Stadium.
"We are talking to him as things stand at the moment," said Dalman.

“Fraizer Campbell is very much loved at the club and we want him to stay ”Mehmet Dalman

Campbell was signed from Sunderland in January 2013 for £650,000.

The former Manchester United forward scored seven goals in 12 matches to help the club gain promotion to the English top flight for the first time in 51 years.

This season he scored six Premier League goals for the Bluebirds, including two in the 3-2 win over the eventual champions Manchester City as well as one in the 2-2 home draw against Manchester United.

It was not enough to help the Bluebirds stay up, however, as they finished bottom of the table.

Cardiff have begun preparing for life in the Championship and have already secured the signature of striker Javi Guerra from Spanish club Real Valladolid, and had a bid in excess of £3m bid accepted for Bournemouth forward Lewis Grabban.
The move for Grabban will increase speculation that Campbell could be on the move, with his former club Hull City reportedly interested.

But Dalman, who has dismissed reports that he is considering stepping down as Cardiff City chairman, says manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to keep Campbell.

"Fraizer Campbell's done fantastically for us, not just this season but the previous season," said Dalman.
"He's very much loved at the club and we want him to stay."

Did well in a largely negative Malky side @ championship level-could only be a plus for us next season.

If we have Campbell, Grabban, Guerra and Maynard as our four next season that'd be very positive.

Probably just lip service though.

Depends how he wants to line up. If he's planning on playing 1 up front and packing the midfield, why have loads of strikers that won't even play. I'd prefer they cash in on mason than him sit in the stands for another season. Grabban, Campbell and guerra will do the job, and they will not be happy on the bench so no need for more strikers. Plus I think your forgetting our young star Healy :thumbright:

He's got a great attitude on and off the pitch, for me he misses too many chances in the premiership but would be ideal in the championship.

He would be great for us next season

I hope he stays, a real trier whose finishing isn't the best and probably not good enough at the top level but if the rest of the team had put in the same effort I believe we would have avoided relegation.

Me neither. His work rate is to notch but his finishing isn't clinical enough. hero get more chances in the Championship so will sore a fair amount but in the Premier where chances are at a premium he's struggled

If we manage to keep Campbell, it will be our best signing of the season.

Better than if we keep Marshall?

'Star' ?

I can't believe people would not want to keep Frazier , he would be easily one of the top strikers in the league in the championship if not THE top striker . He scored 7 goals in 12 games with us last year imagine what he could do with 40/50 games at that level .

Maybe ole fancies playing him wide like he did this season . Maybe a front 3 of Campbell , guerra and grabban ?

I don't understand some people's thinking, over the bar and just past the post are the same in the Championship or the Premier League!

Marshall is a must keep Campbell is a could be useful if he has a good season......

How about James Wilson? The teenager from Man United reserves who scored 2 goals against Hull :D

i think Ole will use this connection again (like Zaha's transfer) although until right now, no issue about that.

Campbell got 7 in 12 games when he joined us, helped massively to get us over the line. If he carried that form over the season he would get us 20+ goals. If Campbell stays then there's no need to sign Grabban in my opinion

Campbell is a great player for the Championship, but only low level Premier. Hull would be the best he could do. I hope he stays, but won't be that bothered if he doesn't.
