Premier or Championship ??

Fri May 16, 2014 10:22 am

Well we have had our taste of life at the top table. The question I would like to pose which do you prefer (take out all the Tan nonsense) Life in Premier League seeing all the top teams come and play, where we are likely to be outplayed by the big guns and reside in the lower part of the table being a small fish in a big pond or being a top side in the championship where we are likely to be a big fish in a smaller pond.

I dont know which I would say was the better position. I think it will take me a fair while into next season to work out which I prefer, What do you think

PLEASE DONT TURN THIS INTO A RANT AGAINST TAN

i cant understand why someone would support a football club and not what them to win :?

so for that reason its the premier league obviously, although the championship is an excellent division

Re: Premier or Championship ??

Every club, & player wants to play in the Premiership, regardless of what level they currently play. For most it will always be a dream, but that doesn't put them off working hard & striving for it.

If you think Champagne, you'll drink Champagne,,,,but the moment you stop getting better, you start getting worse!

Championship is more competetive, the PL is just the top 7 and the rest making up the numbers. Boring.

There are only 5 teams who can realistically WIN the PL though, and 7 that are far better than the rest.

I work with a West Brom fan he said he preffered when they were yo-yoing.

i suppose you can say whats the point in all of it then?

We arent going to be winning the premier leauge or qualifiying for the champions league, i suppose things like cup wins or europa league is never out of the equation, but whats the point in willing your team to do well in the championship, celebreating promotion or winning the league, only for people to claim they never wanted to be in the prem in the first place?

West Brom had an amazing season last year, finished something like 8th? if that was us, i be excited at what could come next, could we maintain and move forward? unfortunately its been a woeful season for them this year and i imagine they will go down next season now.

Winning games, which is more likely to happen in the championship is better. We dont celebrate goals or wins any less, its still the same buzz.

And only 25% can win the championship probably.

I bet you i can name the winner if you give me 6 choices every single season.

Its competitive because the standard of football is pretty poor in the main.

This is the cardiff city view in a nutshell, if you can have it now then its not worth having. Anything you have no work for and you arent bothered.

As ive said on another forum, we have strived to be self sufficient meaning any profits are 100% ours. £25m profits oer year in a decade is a wuarter of a billion. A amount to challenge anybody.

At the end of the day, sport is about striving to be the best and win. Football has leagues, athletics has the olympics. Once you stop striving to better yourself whats the point? The best we can aim for in British football is premier league and then maybe one day on to european games. Whats the point if all you want to do is languish in mediocrity? The beauty of leagues is theoretically a side can improve and improve, building from the bottom of the pyramid to the top. Frankly if all we wanted to do was stay static, ignoring the old cliche of stand still go backwards, we are taking up the space of a team that WANTS it and is prepared to fight for it. So premier league for me. Not at all costs I hasten to add, but we shoulod be fighting every single game to be there.

I thought we were outplayed by the lesser teams , but I think that we competed well against the big guns when there was no pressure.

You say IG ore the Tan nonsense but I don't think you can.

I will judge the premier experience when we are back to what we should be and of course if we get back there.

I love the championship more entertaining and win more game only bad thing is shit away fans

Re: Premier or Championship ??

Fri May 16, 2014 9:11 pm

Like others have said, to not want to strive for Premiership football is to not be a true fan - the whole idea of sport is to try and be the best, or to at least be competing among them. No matter what happened this past season, we were among the top 20 clubs in the professional English leagues - could care less that we finished bottom of the top league, makes no difference once you're in that bottom three anyway.

That said, I love the Championship, and am not sad that we've got at least another 46 games down there again. I'm not even too concerned about the quality of the football on show either, as I'm reasonably confident that OGS is going to have us playing a very nice brand of football at home - away games might be a different matter though, as I'm pretty sure teams will try to stifle our creativity and attempt to make us resort to hoof ball.

I agree with this! I thought the premier league would be a dream come true, but come November/December time, the novelty had worn off

A season in with the big boys was good, but the Championship is far more competitive, that's why I'd say it takes the edge over the prem

Re: Premier or Championship ??

Newcastle are established enough in the Prem but want them to go for a cup run, if your gonna become established and happily drop out of the cup to fund and hopefully stay up then I would like us to be in the Championship.

Swansea got a carling cup under their belt and Newcastle haven't won a cup since I don't even know, say's a lot really.

A lot here seem to be making the incorrect analysis that the premier league means Tompkins every week and being rooted to the bottom of the league. We have been there 3 years and never experienced that.

Ask palace and hull fans if they want to go back to the championship. It's funny the only fans that ever try to make a case for this is the relegated one's and its crazy to read. Funny that.

It's an age old case of "I didn't like her anyway" :laughing6:

I always like to see us challenge with the best in the world which would be Premier League and that will always remain the same, I accept we weren't good enough and we are back where we 'Belong' but I for one don't want us see us remain here for 5 years or more, I wanna see us in the top 12, trying to get at the play offs or the automatic position.

But, unless you trying to get a cup like you did then I wouldn't like us establishing ourselves in the Prem seasons on end but throwing the cup just to make sure we remain in the Prem, Newcastle even by mid December never really looked liked even being in the bottom 5 but could have had a go at the FA Cup but we beat them, could have seen us out but were quite happy to let us get back in the game and a stunning Noone goal got us back in it and built momentum and we got the 2nd to win the game.

Establishing doesn't mean stagnating.

Each premier league year our squad has strengthened and our bank balance increased. It's all about slow and steady growth. Too many Cardiff ans think boom or bust is the only way.

The vast majority of cups are won by premier league clubs let's not forget. Although it must be said the importance of domestic cups is something left firmly in the 90's unfortunately and let's be fair it's not like you win them anyway. So surely it's better not win them in the premier than not win them in the championship?

Stuck at championship level the club cannot grow. It all seems rather pointless, especially for a fan base obsessed with size and potential. For all the bravado Cardiff fans are so lazy. If it can't be gotten now then there's no point it seems for many.

Agree with you regarding the second part, I feel like our supporters are so keen to keep our top talents like Ledley and McCormack for example when getting offered 7 million for both, always felt we should of cashed in on the one and keep the other but we kept them both, honestly at the time I wouldn't have minded us cashing on Ledley as I felt he kind of dipped a little bit for me and we should of got rid of him for the figures we were receiving, wanted us to keep Ross based on what he done the season before and felt he could be the player along with others in the 09/10 season to get us climbing higher.

Regarding the cup, I am not saying go all out and win it.. I said you's lot because you did go on one and actually win the Capital One Cup but a few clubs who are/were in there for a while wanted a cup run regardless if they won it but too actually make the quarters.. if it was further then a bonus.

Clubs like Newcastle should be looking at going on a cup run, they haven't got no distraction or too good to be fighting relegation at any point in the season.

Has to be the Prem. I'll never understand fans who are happy for us to remain in the Championship because we might win a few more games and some of the away trips are 'better'; smacks of a lack of ambition. The kind that saw us fail to get out of the Championship for years after several attempts.

If you had stayed up there is no way these same people will be wanting to get relegated next year.

Premier league... However, I'm glad we got relegated as I don't want to be up there in the wrong identity... PLUS... There have een movements on protesting by local press etc that can be very useful, things that would never have happened had we remained in the premiership.

Re: Premier or Championship ??

Premier League. We have no divine right to be amongst the elite but I like seeing my team play against the top teams in the English pyramid system, not being content with beating sides like Huddersfield etc. I want my team to do the best they can.
