' Bournemouth Face Grabban Exit As Release Clause Is Met ' " Plus Lewis Grabbans profile "

Bournemouth have accepted a £3m bid from Cardiff City for star striker Lewis Grabban.

Bournemouth look certain to lose Lewis Grabban in the coming weeks, after Cardiff City met the £3million release clause in his contract.

The 26-year-old is one of the hottest properties in England outside of the top-flight, having registered 22 goals and six assists in 44 Championship appearances for the Cherries this term. Back in January Brighton & Hove Albion met his buyout fee of £1.1million, but he was persuaded to remain at Dean Court and sign a new contract.

That Cardiff can easily bid for Grabban shows the financial gap between the two clubs in question: the Welsh club made £62million in television money from their one season in the top-flight, and will also receive a further £40million in parachute payments. The £3million will be a record fee received by Howe’s club, beating the £1million they took in when selling another striker, Danny Ings, to Burnley back in 2011.

' Ole says the deal is virtually sealed and Bournemouth have agreed the £3mill offer from Cardiff City. '

Not for a 22 goal a season striker it's not that much really.

Not really 7 were pens

so 26 goals over 2 seasons (assuming none of the 11 last season were pens)
so 15 in play goals. this term.
11 last term

hes not a baby in fact hes in the back end of his prime - He needs to deliver this season to prove he's worth 3 million, His talent has been overlooked his whole career no interest from big clubs

Footballers are only as good as their last season, If he hits 22 goals next term in-play or pens then I'll be more than happy.

Init  players hit their prime at 28, we are getting this guy at just the right time. He is fully developed and could be a star over the next couple of seasons. Oh wait, maybe we should sign an unproven striker, one for the future maybe :laughing6:

Grabban could be like Holt or Lambert, lower league striker that finds his prime in his mid to late 20's. If you'd have said lambert would be playing in the World Cup for England 8 years ago you would have been dragged away in a straight jacket.

Speaking to a cherries season ticket holder today, he says he's a little gutted that grabban is goin, but the 3 mil is way over the odds so he's well happy. He described him as a very good player with plenty of goals in him, but could be a lot better. He says he misses more than he scores but is always willing to shoot. Sounds to me like he's similar to earnie, 200 shots, 60 on target and 30 in the net. At least he's willing to take the shots!

I've been also speaking to a Cherries fan yesterday, I asked how good is he and what's he like etc. they are gutted that he's going to leave, they said that his work rate is second to none, don't stop all game and after 90 minutes he comes of the pitch knackered. his goal scoring his first class, The only negative they had was he's not a very good scorer one on one, however we would be getting a great player for the championship

sounds very Cambell esque then.... makes you wonder why we are letting one got for 800k and buying another for 3m

unless Grabban is on significantly less wage-wise.

I dont see this as a gamble at all. In fact I see it as quite a shrewd purchase.

If he was worth £1.1m in January and £3m now - If he has a good season with us his price will increase and we will be in profit. If he doesnt have a good season, and his price decreases to £2m, we have lost £1m

Our gamble is therefore in the region of £1m and not £3m

re the merchandise ... well thats Tans actions and not directly related to football matters. I do however have understanding with his frustrations with the playing budget. A family member of mine was involved with the playing/management side of a rugby club some years ago. The money is certainly light years away in terms of quantity however the principles are the same. You have rugby clubs that do not make enough money on their own reliant on people coming in and backing them financially in one way or another.
I remember they had a coach who was appointed on the basis of "give me £X and I Will get you up the league" and all the bells and whistles. He was given pre season and brought in some rather underwhelming players. A few games in it was obvious that the team was rubbish but the excuses were that not enough money was being made available and what do they expect. Pay peanuts get monkeys ... but they had provided what the coach asked for. The fact is that the money isnt the managers. Someone had to work hard to make it available and it was squandered then the blame left with the clubs backer for not putting enough in. The coach didnt last long but it took the club a long time to recover and to be honest I Dont think it ever really has. I know there are no guarantees in sport and certainly its always a gamble but put yourself in the shoes of the person putting up the money. You KNOW its a gamble but to see someone blowing a LOT of money and seeing little in the way of improvements you are going to be pretty angry. I promise all that above was genuinely a true story even with the parallels. Tan has made a LOT of problems all on his own and I do understand the anger towards him but regards the playing budget he made a lot of money available to someone he trusted to understand the pl;ayer market then sees Hull bringing in 2 players that virtually transform them, one of which was well within our budget. He sees Remy doing well and scoring for Newcastle and already experienced at premier league level, also not only well within budget but also apparently it would seem, available to us had we wanted him. However once all the money was blown we then find these players are NOT within budget because there was nothing left. Then look at the playing squad where the likes of lappin NEVER plays and isnt even in the squad but is still pocketing salary weekly. Smith - never plays at all. Their combined salaries could make a big dent in the wages of a player that WOULD make a difference. We dithered over Tom Ince offering £8 million .... a guy who has not to date forced his way as a starter for Palace who finished way above us .... yet Hull paid aroudn £5 Million for huddlestone .... you dont need to be an expert to start wondering whats happening to the money you are putting in.

Never seen the guy play, personally. I do wonder though - if he signs with us and scores about 10-15 goals and we get promoted again, will people start coming out with things like "he's not Prem quality, we need to move him on"??

Re: Updated ' Lewis Grabban '

Sat May 17, 2014 3:44 pm

he may be good ect, but im sure bournemouth play a pass and move game, we seem to play hoof ball, under EVERY manager, could he play in that style and still get the 15 goals we're hoping for ..

Re: Updated ' Lewis Grabban '

Sat May 17, 2014 5:49 pm

I've seen him play plenty of times being a local to bournemouth and he's no better than Campbell. Tends to need more than one attempt to score. Am worried that he won't get the chances as bournemouth play an aggressive attacking style which gives him plenty of chances.

Would rather we keep Campbell than splash 3 million on him
