Recommend a nice bottle of 'Red'

Thu May 15, 2014 11:36 am

This thread will either be a big hit or go down like a lead ballon! We will see.....

We've had some good threads recommending cider's which i used to sample some very nice drinks, so I thought I'd do one for my favourite tipple, a good red wine! (They dont do blue wine in Tesco, so we will to have red on this occasion  )

I dont often shop for alcohol in supermarkets, in fact they dont even sell alcohol in supermarkets over here. However the best wine by far for the price has to be:

Domaine du Pegau: Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee

Price fluctuates between $80 - $120 (£50-£70) but worth every penny. :thumbright:

Another great one is Quilceda Creek Cab Sav.

Superb. Slightly cheaper by maybe £10.

Love a Rioja myself, can't go wrong with this number from Tesco's finest range. Costs around a tenner but sometimes on offer for £7

Pesquera Crianza £20 from Fine Wines Direct on Penarth Road (a couple of units from National Tyres). Robert Parker raved about it about 20 years ago and it's been consistently good ever since.

FusionV for the De Toren vineyard in Stellenbosch - the Cape's finest.
Hard to come by on these shores, but you can import a case of 12 - still have a couple of 2005 vintage laid down, that will need drinking in the next 3 to 4 years.

I imagine that SL69 thinks that white wine is actually coloured white and often ends up just buying some milk.
