' Solskjaer Begins Preparation For Life In The Championship '

' Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wasting no time, but Cardiff will have to cut costs '

Thursday 14th May 2014.

Cardiff City manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is wasting no time preparing for next season. The Bluebirds have already been busy looking for new players and it looks likely that striker Javi Guerra is to join from Real Valladolid.

Solskjaer is planning an assault on the Championship with another striker, Lewis Grabban, lined up. Grabban has had a wonderful season with Bournemouth is being pursued by the Bluebirds. The Cherries have reportedly accepted a £3m bid from the Welsh giants.

The Bluebirds have suffered without a consistent goal scorer for the past two seasons. On the evidence so far , it looks as if that might very well change next season.

However, Cardiff will have to cut costs. The drop from the Premier League to England’s second tier will be an expensive one. The sale of Caulker, Medel and the outstanding goalkeeper David Marshall will raise much needed funds. Marshall alone should command a fee of around €8m. This fee may rise if Arsenal and Liverpool enter an expected bidding war.
Cardiff’s biggest problem will be their off-field disputes.

If only their chairman Vincent Tan could get the fans on his side by returning to their original colour of blue. It certainly doesn’t seem to make business sense anymore. Replica shirts are a major part of club business.

If the fans are totally against it now, then is it pure stubborness on behalf of Vincent Tan? A quick return to the Premier League needs a united front. This involves the club owners, management, players and fans.

If Cardiff City could return to their rightful colours, I could see Cardiff being a major threat in the Championship. Season ticket sales would certainly rise and most fans know how passionate Bluebirds fans can be.

Solskjaer will want to make his mark next season. He took on a poisoned chalice after Malky Mackay’s departure, and this is the time for him to make his mark as a manager. This writer feels he will be a success. Matt Daehli, who Solskjaer brought with him from Molde, seems to be an absolute gem. Some fans are consider him to be the best young player they have seen at the club since Aaron Ramsey.

Cardiff City are also increasing the capacity of the Cardiff City Stadium to 33,000. The extension will be ready to host the 2014 UEFA Super Cup on August 14th. If the club can turn things around, they can make the Cardiff City Stadium can be the fortress once again.

I really hope we can hold onto Marshall!

Can't argue with that.
Also fans have to stop abusing Tan, that doesn't get the cause anywhere and he'll just dig his heels in.Diplomacy's the way forward.

I can see Marshall staying. Previous posts and articles I have read suggest he and his family are settled in Wales, and he is in the Scotland setup because he is playing every week.

Caulker and Medel will leave and if we get anywhere near what we paid for either i'd be happy. losing Mutch or Noone is more of a concern tbh.

i would like to think we could raise 30 million through player sales, while getting an obscene amount of money off the wage bill here.

Medel - 6m (reported 25k a week?)
Caulker - 8m - (probably about 30k a week)
Marshall - 8m (id be surpsrised if his new deal didnt give hi 25k a week)
Campbell - 1m (25k?)
Mutch - 5m - (dunno, about 20k)

ok, so thats 28m in fees, but 2 million less than i thought we would get for Campbell.

obviously im speculating about the wages based on stuff you hear / read.... but with Bellamy (40k a week) and Kenwyn (37k) we could quite easily chop 10m of the yearly wage bill.

Whilst I have no grounds to disagree with the figures quoted, I think that if Bellamy and Jones's figures are anywhere close, then they both need to go. I would also suspect that Medal and especially Caulker are on more, so we need to trim the wages bill.

I sometimes wish we had Huw Jenkins running our finances then we wouldn't be in the shit like we are now. :?

im sure that when the whole cornelius thing was in the paper that Medels contract info was leaked, he wasnt on as much as A-Corn was, but had Image (lol) rights or something.

Bellamy was on 35k a week in the championship, makes sense hes on a little more now... and Kenwyn was on 37k a week at stoke (according to reports) so if we just took over his contract then i assume hes on the same.

Stupid question maybe but why would we need to raise funds? Particularly with the large tv amount received and the parachute payments?

I understand cutting the wage bill etc... Dont see why we would desperately need to raise x amount due to the drop..

I don´t understand either. Expensive going down, but even more so, if not making a return to PL. I can´t see any reason for selling Marshall. The man almost saved us from relegation. So if expensive going down, holding this keeper back for £8m, is not the wrong thing to do looking at the big picture. But absolutely there are other players who can leave. But not from motivation for making funds. Not this year, when Championship coming season will be though. But making more money turning color and badge back to original is certainly agreeable . :bluescarf:

Me thinks 6 or 7 new players across defence, mid and up front.Try hard to keep Marshall. Ole as manager not sure....BUT who would want to come here !!!!;

Most of the money we've earned was already pissed away. Parachute payments won't cover a lot, it's about 15m over 3/4 years.

Parachute payments are 60m over 4 years. We get 23m in year 1.

Ah right. I didn't realise that they had changed the payment, thanks.
