Dæhli named in Norway squad to face France and Russia

Tue May 13, 2014 12:00 pm

Rather unsurprisingly, the young, up and coming Cardiff City attacking midfielder has been called up to the Norwegian squad for fixtures against France away the 27th of May and against Russia at home in Oslo the 31st.

Eikrem also unsurprisingly has been dropped from the squad, having not featured much for Cardiff in the past months. The young and very promising Yann-Erik de Lanlay has been called up instead.

The squad
Rune Almenning Jarstein - Hertha Berlin
Ørjan Håskjold Nyland - Molde
Andre Hansen - Odd Grenland

Per Egil Flo - Molde
Vegard Forren - Molde
Brede Hangeland - Fulham
Even Hovland - Molde
Tom Høgli - Brugge
Martin Linnes - Molde
Håvard Nordtveit - Borussia Mönchengladbac
Jonathan Parr - Crystal Palace

Mats Møller Dæhli - Cardiff
Morten Gamst Pedersen - Rosenborg
Per Ciljan Skjelbred - Hertha Berlin
Alexander Tettey - Norwich
Ruben Yttergård Jenssen - Kaiserslautern
Stefan Johansen - Celtic
Anders Konradsen - Rennes
Yann-Erik de Lanlay - Viking

Tarik Elyounoussi - Hoffenheim
Håvard Nielsen - Eintracht Braunschweig
Mohammed Abdellaoue - Stuttgart
Daniel Braaten - FC København

If he plays well against those 2 there could be admirers of him.

To the Norway boys on here - are there any bargains there for cardiff ? Do you expect any to come to cardiff ? Id pretty muvh expect Nyland to join us if Marshall leaves. Whats the new boys de lanley from Viking like ?

de Lanlay has a bright future, scored on his debut for Norway against Armenia with a deft finish just inside the box, but I wouldn't say he's ready for a top club just yet. He might do well in a Championship club but I wouldn't count on Ole going for him.

These are realistic Ole targets IMO:

-Vegard Forren, CB, could go for £1.5m already said he would play for Ole given the chance again.

-Nyland, as you pointed out - could go for for £2-3m.

-Omar Elabdellaoui, (right back) could go for pennies, relegated with Eintracht Braunschweig from Bundesliga as one of their best players of the campaign. Is still young (I believe 22) and played every match for Norway U21 in the previous Euro Championship. A real rocket of a player known to set up combinations/ play walls with the winger offensively to get all the way to the byline. While the Bundesliga is just as good as the EPL if not better, the 2nd. Bundesliga is probably a lot lower quality than the Championship and I would not be surprised if he would want to go to Cardiff. Would allow getting rid of KTC/ Kev.

other than those three, I don't think there are any more realistic targets Ole would want, except maybe Tettey. And that would rely on Medel leaving first.

Cant see norwich letting Tettey go. Looked a real good player for them.
Forren a very good shout to replace Caulker. Cant see us signing another right back.
Thanks for the insight into them :ayatollah:

It looks to me as if OGS overestimated Eikrem and underestimated Daehli. When he signed them he said Daehli was one for the future and Eikrem would strengthen the team with immediate impact.. He proceeded to fast track Eikrem into the staring 11 team whereas Daehlu had to play his way into the team through a number of subs which made a lot of people wonder why he wasn't starting games.
I feel like he should have started Daehli earlier he adds skills we didn't have. While Eikrem might be a good player when he is on form, he doesn't really add anything we don't already havve. I would have preferred him to get a defensive midfielder like tettey.Eikrem seems to offer more or less the same as whitts.

Norway national team manager suggest Daehli should sign for a Premier League side in the summer:

De Lanlay is still unproven...

I´m confident that de Lanlay would strengthen the team. He matches OGS philosophy of play. His best skills are acceleration, crosse, ball control and position. Give Viking a offer at £ 1.5 mill. (He has a contract to 2016). They are Vikings´s diamond, but I don´t think they would turn down the offer. £ 1.5 mill is big money in Norway where many teams are struggling financially. If Noone get´s injured next season (witch I reckon) we have a another one just as good. It will also be good to have a competition for the position. Personally I think even £ 3 mill would not be a bad price for a player at his quality. :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

I hate it when national managers talk about players moving clubs

Don't get me wrong, with both Bellamy and Zaha and maybe Mutch leaving, de Lanlay would be a good buy if the price is right. I just don't think Ole will try to get any more 'young and promising' players, at least not Norwegian ones, for a while ;)

Do you think Berget will come good mate ? I'm confident Eikrem is a good player, he has the look of a quality footballer, hopefully he's settled in now and can have a good pre-season so he can hit the ground running next season. :ayatollah:

I do think Berget will be an asset. He's a very powerful forward but technical at the same time. I was scratching my head to be honest at the last 3 EPL games for Cardiff when he was an unused sub after having what looked like a lot of influence on the DVP scoring and chance creation.

He's a natural #10, so that may be why he was less of a choice in the previous campaign, given that's where Dæhlie played.

I do think Berget and Dæhlie on the same pitch with a lone striker in front of them would wreak actual havoc on the opposition.

Then I will mention the striker Mohamed Elyounoussi, OGS wanted him to Molde. In the end, they finally could sign him, but after OGS left (signing in march). Now he tops the ranking in norwegian football league, who started a few months ago. Scoring 5 in 9 matches. 1 assist. No penalty. Maybe he would be here instead of Berget if "Mo" already was at Molde at the time? Maybe a swap is possible? Well seems anyhow now there is enough strikers to the coming season. But I will have an open eye for him for the future, Im sure OGS do to. :thumbright:
