Right, hypothetical scenario here. We are only able to sign one player. Please take into consideration the likelihood that the likes of Marshall, Caulker, Medel, Campbell and Mutch could well be leaving. Which position do you think would be a priority for a new signing and which player would you like to see us sign?
I would definitely say if Marshall goes then a replacement keeper is mandatory. I wouldn't mind having a look at Sam Johnstone on loan from Manchester United. Yes, he was keeper at relegated Doncaster but he's had rave reviews and Marshall got relegated with Norwich from the Championship when we signed him if you remember.

if we can only sign one, then a keeper on loan wouldnt be it for me

Rhodes would be ideal, or if we cant get him Deeney.

Goal scoring striker, feel Moore can make the step up. Centre of our midfield is our strongest position and Gunnar could do decent in the CDM role or even Kiss. We have lacked a goal scoring striker for 3 seasons

A winger because we only have Noone (Daehli is a much better CAM), Someone like Redmond would be ideal (only reason I'm saying this is because he joined Norwich for Hughton mainly, if a prem club comes in we've got no chance though), perhaps Lingard loan.

With the squad at our disposal, we are fine with all areas of the team to mount a promotion challenge. The only thing we lack in my opinion is a midfield general, a leader to talk, organise and motivate. I know we have the likes of Gunnarsson who is the captain of Iceland, but we need someone experienced who has been there and done it for years. When Newcastle got promoted from the Championship, they had players like Stephen Taylor, Joey Barton, Nicky Butt, Alan Smith, characters who you know you could depend on to grind out a result on a cold winter Tuesday night at Brentford. We have lots of nice footballers, but we are lacking characters like this and this could make us a soft touch and cost us.
If it was up to me, I would go for Tim Cahill. He's now 34 playing for New York Red Bulls in the MLS, but he's still as fit as a fiddle. Obviously he would come on a hefty wage, but if he gets us back to the Premiership first time of asking, he will be worth it. Cahill would give us the passion, guts, energy and drive required to motivate and inspire the team. He's a winner and a leader. He's done it for years in the Championship and Premiership, leads by example and will also chip in with goals from midfield. He's an old experienced head with the correct character who would galvanise our team and help steer us to promotion.
