A positive note from the season.

Cardiff finished bottom of the injury league, which shows that the back room staff are doing a good job on the fitness and rehabilitation of the team, which will be important with the extra games in the Championship.

The only positive from this season is that it's now over  :ayatollah:

Surely your highest ever premier league finish was the main positive. Coupled with our lowest ever finish its been a brilliant season for you lot.

For me that further proves what a soft touch we were, on top of us having one of the best discipline records. If we picked up quite a few more cautions and had a few more injuries, we probably wouldn't have finished bottom as we would have been more street wise, competitive and nastier to play against.

There is a difference between being streetwise, competitive and nastier to play against, than picking up more cautions and having more injuries. Your confusing the playing style and commitment with the work done by the fitness and rehabilitation of the back room staff. More cautions results in more red cards and teams with less players rarely win, while more injuries would never be a help. Imagine if Marshall was injured for most of the season, no disrespect to Lewis, but I think we would have lost a lot more matches.

From 2000 it's been up and up for Cardiff so I'm not too disappointed. Can't expect success.

f*cking hell

So a few more broken legs or cruiciate ligament injuries might have kept us up is it? :laughing5:

All opinions welcome.

I tend to agree to an extent, we were too soft and didn't turn up to far too many games. Eg Sunderland, Swansea. We didn't want it.

Exactly, the Newcastle team that got promoted from the Championship contained midfielders such as Alan Smith, Joey Barton, Kevin Nolan, Danny Guthrie - a group of thugs who would never get outbattled.

Man Utd were struggling during Fergie's last season until they brought Scholes out of retirement. Scholes is a class player but he also knew when to leave his foot in and leave his mark on opponents. The same with the Roy Keane's etc. Taking someone out to get a booking is worth it if it leads to giving your team a psychological edge.

Regarding my point with injuries, Helguson choosing to bravely score a header home to Hull knowing his momentum will result in him knocking himself out on the post, or someone like Bothroyd having a similar opportunity, but not being brave or courageous enough to go for it so he doesn't get hurt? I rest my case. We didn't want it enough and rolled over too many times this season. No other team would lose relegation deciders against Hull and Sunderland 4-0. A lack of character and fight has got us relegated and a more street wise Crystal Palace with a squad inferior to ours have finished nearly half way up the table.

We got results at home towards the start of the season because the CCS wasn't a nice place for opponents to come. The opposition knew they would be in for a hell of a battle. Towards the end of the season, the opposition looked forward to coming to the CCS to play us because they knew we were a soft touch and we were there for the taking. That is the difference!

Commitment and tenacity are very different picking up injuries and cautions. While I agree with Helguson's bravery, he didn't miss many games with injury, whereas Bothroyd missed lots through injury. Hard tacklers rarely get injured, it is the player who goes into the tackle half heartedly who usually comes off worst. I also agree that 'we didn't want it enough and that we were rolled over too many times', but that doesn't equate to a lack of injuries and cautions. If a team gives away lots of cautions in the final third, some will result in more goals from penalties and free kicks, whereas tenacity and commitment will not. There is a big difference. As regards the team being a soft touch, compared with earlier in the season. Well this is partly due to the style of play, as when we played defensively under Malky we were hard to break down, but didn't score many goals, whereas under OGS we were scoring more goals, but this left more space for the opposition, resulting in a weaker defence. Even teams like Arsenal have been stuffed by 4 goals when focusing too much on attacking play and Liverpool lost the title by seeking a fourth against Palace instead of shutting up shop.
