Is It Too Late For Fans To Buy The Club?

Mon May 12, 2014 12:45 pm

I know none of us have the cash to do it and the debt has reached a level that would not see a fan group be able to take over. So have we missed the boat? Has the massive amounts of money in football finally taken ownership away from the fans.

I reckon Swansea, although they didn't think it at the time, got lucky with the whole Petty drama. The debt was minuscule compared to ours now. The fans took control and the club is now run on a budget based on income.

Let's talk pie in the sky, what will it take for fans to take control now? Is it an absolute no, no without buckets of cash?

Although Tan is lending us his own cash didn't Sam just borrow the money from banks putting himself up as collateral? What is the club actually worth in bricks, mortar and players? Is the total roughly the same as the debt owed to Tan?

Would a bank supply funding using the club as collateral?

Obviously the club would fall through the leagues as fan ownership would mean that expenditure would ONLY be based on income MINUS the repayment to the banks.

Could anyone see a time when the club was ran by fans purely on its' income? Doing it the right way instead of gambling on success.

I know jack shit about business finances but is it really out of reach? Could a few motivated fans, a couple of rich fans and a sympathetic bank sort it out? I think I just answered my question? A sympathetic bank.....

i think if people thought this possible it would be in motion already..........i dont think there is anywhere near the equity in the club to finance such a loan.....a no go....the amounts being bandied about are insane for ordinary people......KJ 40k a week?..that means an ordinary fan needs to buy a 400 quid ST for a hundred years to pay hium for one week........

Your right pie in the sky.
Banks won't go anywhere near a football club.
