Wales' Golden Generation

Sun May 11, 2014 10:33 pm

I thought I'd put a list together on what could be the next Welsh squad, and it looks pretty tasty to be fair.

I don't think wales have ever had so many players playing for top teams in top divisions, but teams like Man Utd, Arsenal, Liverpool, Man City, Celtic and none other than Real Madrid are all represented - which is incredible.

Wayne Hennessey - Crystal Palace
Boaz Myhill - West Brom

Adam Matthews - Celtic
Ashley Williams - Swansea
James Chester - Hull
Ben Davies - Swansea
Chris Gunter - Reading
Paul Dummett - Newcastle

Declan John - Cardiff City
Aaron Ramsey - Arsenal
Jack Collison - West Ham
Joe Allen - Liverpool
Emyr Huws - Manchester City
Joe Ledley - Crystal Palace
Harry Wilson - Liverpool

Gareth Bale - Real Madrid
Sam Vokes - Burnley
Tom Lawrence - Manchester United

Also looking at the ages of some of the players, which I believe would make the average age well below 25 as the only player over 30 would be Myhill.

Count ourselves blessed for this latest batch of youngsters. I fully expect an assault on the next qualifying rounds.

Ideal starting 11 for me would be:

.................Hennessey
Matthews...Collins...Williams...Davies
..............Allen........Ledley............
Bale..............Ramsey..............John
...................Vokes

Don't know a lot about Chester from Hull, maybe he's better than Collins. I think John would be better suited at left wing, he's got pace and can put a decent ball in so he'd fit in nice there. With Bale on the other side and Rambo in between them that would be dangerous. If he's not quite good enough yet then use Robson Kanu.

Still need a goalscorer though

Still need a goalscorer?! Vokes Rambo and bale not good enough?

Would swap Collins for Chester and John for Lawrence but that has the basis of a very good side :ayatollah:

Precisely :ayatollah: I also forgot about HRK. He's been very good for Wales lately.

Don't think Vokes is good enough to be a regular goalscorer. Think he only has 6 goals for Wales. He's still young so hopefully he can be the right man. Done well this season though to be fair.
Obviously Rambo and Bale will get goals but we need a striker as a regular goalscorer.

Isn't Lawrence a striker?

Yes, who know how good he may turn out?

What about John Williams from Crystal Palace?

I still don't think our defence is that good. It's good for Welsh standards but on an international level? Williams and Davies are perhaps pushing at that level but the other defenders aren't.
