Still got two years left on his contract. Would still be a profit on what we paid but surely can't be right.

Who the hell puts a release clause that small?
Sun May 11, 2014 9:59 pm
Surely cannot be true

Nah he would have been gone at the end of last season. Or at least January

I assume if it is true it is because it would have let him leave at the end of his first six months for only 200k more than we paid for him if we didn't get promoted but surely we would have done something about it.

Caulker and Medel will also not have high release clauses either, at least not some of the figures mentioned on here.

If that's true - no one can ever talk about Malky in the transfer window positively again.

they would struggle now to be honest.

Very true, but Campbell could have been seen as a great buy short on contract, great record in the league, exactly what we needed good potential. But to piss that away on a next to nothing release clause and leave the club short in that position is horrendous.

Here's hoping its true because he is just not clinical enough. Great work ethic but unfortunately in Ole's set up we need someone who does the business when they find themselves with an opportunity.

7 goals in 12 appearances in the Championship while not match fit.

Would sell him if we got a bid but he's a regular championship goalscorer, he should be worth 2.5mil

We went up because loads of players all over the field contributed to scoring. We need a more prolific striker.

You said we need a more clinical striker yet he scored more than a goal every 2 games while unfit. If we keep him he'll definitely get 20 goals next season

Agreed. People need to realise how lucky we are to have Campbell. Realise how much off the ball work he does, how he works the channels, closes down the defenders working from one side of the pitch to the other, then he chases back, clears from the edge of his own box and then runs the length of the pitch past a stationary Zaha to chase his own clearance. Campbell has proven in the Championship he is a goal scorer. This is because in the Championship, he is playing for a team who is not constantly defending and chasing the ball like in the Premiership, he doesn't need to do as much off the ball running and therefore, when Campbell does get a chance, he is able to take it as he isn't as f**ked!
If Campbell was playing for a better Premiership team this season who kept the ball better, didn't have to defend so much, didn't set theirselves up for Campbell to take on an entire defence isolated on his own and do the job of 3 or 4 players with his off the ball work, he would have scored a lot more goals. When strikers are in better teams, they get more chances and don't have to work so hard to create their own chances, they aren't as tired or fatigued when they are presented with a chance and are therefore, more likely to convert their chance. Some fans don't understand this, but we are very lucky to have Campbell and I hope we don't lose him!

Fee is a little low considering he was talked about going back to Sunderland for 5m (by the Mirror as well IIRC) just last week.
Would be sad to see him go, he and Marshall have been the only two players that have gave a crap this season. He is proven in the Championship so I think he'd be worth hanging on to.

I think he is a good player. One of those on the team sheet of the opposition that makes you feel a little uneasy.
Just like Chopra in that respect.
