I'm happy to compromise with Vincent Tan

Sun May 11, 2014 8:42 pm

I know that I am in the minority on this messageboard, but I feel that out of the 28000 fans who have watched City most home games this season, I think my opinion would be fairly common.

I want blue back, but I want Tan to remain as our majority shareholder/owner, I am willing to compromise with Tan, if he is willing to put a fan on the board and have regular contact between the senior board members and the supports trust, I would be happy to support Tan's leadership into next season and the long term future.

Its clear that the rebrand has been a terrible failure, Tan knows that, we know that, today he has given his first indication that he is willing to take a backwards step from the 'all red' kit and make some compromises to give the fans blue on the home kit, which we all want, but he isn't going to give that for nothing in return, he wants us to give a little too, allow him the owner and majority shareholder, to also be represented on the kit. We as fans can not just take take take

I guarantee if Tan just rolled over tomorrow and give the Blue back, the next day fans would want the old badge back, then they would want a full debt to equity conversion, then they would want a massive transfer budget, then they would want immediate promotion, then they would want even bigger transfer funds for the Prem (all funded by Tan though, heaven forbid the club should pay) then they would want a big challenge in the prem, then reduced ticket prices and then they would want Tan out anyway because he should have never fucked with the fans in the first place. Dare I say it sometimes I feel the club is dealing with a section of the fan base acting like a spoiled child.

I have stood in the Ninian Stand all season with a blue and white scarf, I've always sung 'always be blue' but I will never join in all the 'Tan is a wanker' and 'Tan Out' chants, he doesn't deserve such ridicule, he has helped move our club forward in many many ways, this will always be a regrettable season due to 'off field' crap and I honestly cant see how Tan can win over the fan base as whatever he does, they will never accept him.

But look at the good things he has done for us, I am not going to list them all, we all know the position the club was in when he turned up, we went from that to buying Caulker, Medel and Cornelius, big transfer fees that the die hard fans that attended that legendary 'rainy Tuesday night fixture in Rochdale' could only dream about. They didnt all work out but is that Tan's fault? of course not!

Whether you like it or not, Tan has moved the club along, further than anyone else in the clubs history, and while we all want blue back, you've got to accept that you cant have it all our own way under this owner, he wants compromise, and im sure we will get it, clearly we arent going to start wearing red as a compromise, but perhaps not mocking him and heckling him when he is in attendance at the CCS would be a start.

Blue and red is just as alien to Cardiff City as red and black. Cardiff City should be wearing blue jerseys at home.

Tan has today shown himself to be backing out of his promise to change debt to equity - wasn't that the reason the majority "reluctantly accepted" the rebrand in the first place? Pure and simple, he lied.

Tan has progressed this club and moved it along? How exactly? Next season, we will be playing in exactly the same league as when he joined, yet we will be saddled with FAR more debt & playing in a totally alien colour with a feuding fan base that are split on the club's identity.

I can't see how that's progression.

Why would he convert debt to equity, that would mean he is involved for the long term in a place he is made to feel completely unwelcome.

He would do it as it would honour his part of the "deal" about the rebrand. Of course, I suspected it wouldn't happen all along & got shot down for it.. the man is clearly a liar & finally it's been proven today.

As I said, I can't see how he has progressed this club at all... He's plunged it into deeper trouble.

Top post, if he's only going to share blue and red on kit space other changes must be made. Bluebird returned to the badge, fan representative(s) on the board.

Overall the club needs a steady basis to build from Malky looked to be building that in his opening year but clearly that didn't work.

Secondly once he has converted ALL the debt to equity, I got a suggestion for compromise - turn us back to blue immediately and if we get back to the Premier League then and only then he can canvass all season ticket holders about allowing his values to become part of our heritage.

Gain our trust and then consult the fans on what we consider to be fair.

Not quite accurate, Tan said he may consider a fan rep. in the Boardroom as an observer. (Who would probably have to sign a gagging clause) ;)

So wipe out £150 million of debt, and remove all the traces of the rebrand, something he feels strongly about, I assure you the fans would just move onto the next set on demands then.
Give and take, not just take take take, you say then speak to the fans, the fans with give him feck all no matter how much he gives to the club.

Re: I'm happy to compromise with Vincent Tan

Sun May 11, 2014 9:07 pm

Debt to equity was one of the conditions for accepting the rebrand... Which is why many were so "reluctantly accepting" the rebrand.

As time has gone on & his promise has looked less likely, the fans have started to question it (fairly in my mind). Now that it is not going to happen, I think the fans are quite right to feel angry that he has reneged on his part of the deal & will therefore no longer reluctantly accept the rebrand.

Re: I'm happy to compromise with Vincent Tan

It's nice to see a balanced post on Tan. I make no bones, I rarely post on here, finding some of the posts puerile and the other site' has turned from a football message board to an anti Tan blog.
Yes, the guy has made big mistakes, none bigger than the rebrand, but he has puts sums of money into the club that we could only gave dreamed about in the past. It was his money, not Malky's that funded a shopping spree at the start of the season , a spree that went sour because the players Malky bought were not up to the mark, or not suited to the demands of the prem.
I have no problem with the blue protests, but I do feel there has been a degree of intimidation for fans who were not so bothered about the colour change. I also think the comments directed at and to Tan have been disgusting and offensive, and on the main not funny at all. I do blame him for being offended and digging his heels on over the colour change and debt conversation.
Hopefully, if we start winning a few games next year, a more reasonable attitude might start to come through from the fans and compromises might then be able to come to the fore.

He clearly wants out but wants all his money back.

Sorry Vin that aint going to happen. I think hes going to gave to take a loss and we as fans are going to have to accept championship or lower whilst we cut our cloth accordingly.

With all due respect, you keep saying the fans will demand this and demand that if Tan 'rolls over' and gives us the blue back. How do you know? That's an awful lot of speculation there Gavin. You keep saying that as fans, we take, take, take. That is extremely unfair. I don't think those fans who made the trips, at real expense both in time and finance, up to Sunderland and then Newcastle the following week, would agree that they just take, take, take.

Can you honestly say where the club has progressed since Tan joined the club? We will be playing in exactly the same league next season as when he joined, be playing in an alien colour, a split fan base & in a monumental amount of debt, which Tan has now admitted, won't be wiped, going against what he originally promised.

Yes, the club hasn't got any HMRC court appearances to go to & no short term financial issues, but surely you can see that in the long term, this club is in financial dire straights?

Fair enough there mate, I take that back, what I was trying to say was nothing will satisfy certain fans, demands will continue from a certain vocal section of the fanbase.

Yes Gavin, wipe out the massive debt that HE created.

Then give us back our colours.

Then start the process over again but this time do it the correct way, consult the fans from a clean slate with dialogue and considerations he would like to make, if the fans go with him and decide to compromise at that point then fine but if the fans say no then no it is.

But if it works that way and we are in the Premier League and he wants to sell for whatever price, that could be £500m as far as I care, if he makes an absolute mint from the sale then good for him, nobody can deny him that.

He is a custodian of this football club, he is in it for making money not trampling over our tradition.

I don't care if he makes an absolute fortune but remember we are Welsh and we are in Wales, this is our local club not a bastardisation of what his values are.

And that goes for any prospective owner who may have a future interest in this club.
