' Bradford Fire - RIP the 56... '

Sun May 11, 2014 7:34 am

29 years ago today - awful, horrific, totally avoidable tragedy. The pictures send a shiver down my spine whenever I see them.

Forget the comparisons to Hillsborough and Heysel - just spare a thought for the 56 fans who never made it back that day.

Shocking footage from that day, RIP
I served in south wales fire service for 10 years and that video is often used to show the speed a fire can develop.

I was only 8 but I can remember it vividly. The image of that guy walking across the pitch in flames is truly awful.

Frightening how quickly it took hold. I've read in a few places that the sheer intensity of the heat took many lives; people didn't have to be directly touched by the flames to be burned they way they were...

Not sure whether I should post the video or not, perhaps you guys can advise me if it should be taken back down, perhaps some younger bluebirds may not have seen the terrible scenes, as this doesn't get as much attention as other noteable moments in football tragedies.

Notice how its not all over the news as was the Liverpool thing.
Wonder if there will be a minute silence at todays games?

Give it a f*cking rest Paul as the OP said this thread is a mark of respect and the argument for it not getting as much coverage as hillsborough is fir another thread / day.

Its all over Twitter from the national journalists and fans alike.

Agree with you 100%.

I went on holiday to Belgium in the august and on same complex were a family from Bradford who had been at the game. They had survived but it had left huge emotional scars on the family.

RIP.

Bradford was a tragedy caused by poor health and safety regulations.

Hills borough was a tragedy caused by poor policing and hundreds of drunken scousers turning up without tickets.

I yesterday's play off games there was a minutes silence. Hopefully there will be same today.

I hope so as it I my eyes is worst then Hillsborough.
Just because they are not a big name.
And add to that liverpool fans pissed and without tickets are as much to blame as the ob.
Bradford was a tragedy waiting to happen at any ground and was not anyones fault.

Totally agree with you. Had drunk fans not turned up without tickets the tragedy would not have happened.

Thanks for all respectful comments, It was an horrific day that i still think about alot, Along with many more fellow Bradford fans, Two of my friends and their father all died hugged together, I was only playing football with them in our local park the morning of the fire. Their mother donated all the compensation to the death school where her husband worked. Very brave lady she was. We all pay our respects every year on the day, We don't want it glorified and don't expect
other Clubs to follow what we do, Unlike what the Hillsborough tragedy seems to have done. Again thanks.

I still think The Bradford should never be forgotten as at the time, that could have happened in a number of stadiums. It really saddens me every time I see it and have respect for those who had to go through it

I'm fairly sure that we played Wimbledon away the same day, I stayed up in London with a mate. We were pretty pissed in the night, and then saw the footage coming through from Valley Parade, horrendous scenes. This could have easily happened at many other grounds at that time, including NP... RIP to the Bradford 56...

that video is truly shocking and awful. To young to remember those tragic events but that video really brings it home. I've got total respect for the Bradford fans and all concerned, on how they go about remembering that sad day. They go about it with dignity and without fuss.. The way it should be. Rip to all who perished, and thoughts go out to the families of the victims
