Cardiff boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believes Tony Pulis is "an example to learn from" as he prepares for the Welsh club's Barclays Premier League swansong.
Crystal Palace could easily have joined relegated Cardiff in the Championship next season had it not been for Pulis' managerial heroics at Selhurst Park.
But the Welshman turned them around from being seemingly relegation certainties in mid-season to finishing comfortably clear of the danger zone.
It was not to be for Solskjaer and Cardiff, though, after last Saturday's 3-0 defeat against Newcastle condemned them to a quickfire Championship return.
"Tony Pulis has done fantastic this season, and he was the saviour of the club," Solskjaer said, ahead of Sunday's home game against Chelsea.
"The way they (Palace) were going... and he has turned it around. It is an example from me to learn from.
"I spoke to him after our game (last month) and I had a great half-an-hour with him in my room. I got some advice from him. You speak to others, too.
"But I am very confident in my own ability, too. We just have to look to next season. I am sure we will be competing."
Asked how he has dealt with failure in his career, former Manchester United star Solskjaer added: "It was a long time ago.
"You feel down when you are injured and you think you are never ever going to play football again. If it is important to you, you will find a way. If it's not, you will find an excuse.
"Never ever find an excuse. I have never been that way. I will always find a way."
Solskjaer took over as manager in January after Cardiff chairman Vincent Tan dispensed with Malky Mackay's services, but he was unable to inspire a climb out of the bottom three.
"I am the manager. I will take the blame," Solskjaer said.
"I didn't make the impact on the results I hoped for. I came in hoping to make a difference and we could move up the table, but it didn't happen. We have not been good enough.
"We have got to give the fans a good last game (on Sunday), and then we will look towards next season."
