The colour of Cardiff City's kit is set to be the focal point of more protests this weekend as fans prepare to step up their demands for the club's traditional blue colours to be restored at the final home match of the season against Chelsea.

Two years on from the 2012 rebranding from blue to red, the issue continues to be the source of bitterness, division, controversy and unrest.

For many the changes have damaged the very identity of a club they have supported all their lives. They miss the shirts and the colours they wore throughout their youth in the nineties, eighties, seventies and before.

So, what is the history of the Cardiff City shirt?

Many will know the club's colours, and indeed name, were neither blue or Cardiff City. Indeed, the team we now know as the Bluebirds started life as Riverside AFC in 1899 and wore chocolate and amber until 1908.

From there it was all blue - from the glorious kit worn by the most famous side of them all - Fred Keenor's 1927 FA Cup winners - to the iconic jerseys worn in the the lower divisions during the 1990s that still hang in many a 30-something's wardrobe.

Along the way there have been some weird and wonderful alternative kits, not to mention a host of memorable sponsors, including the South wales Echo, Airways Cymru, Modplan and Giles Sports.

The last two years, however, are rooted in controversy as the Malaysia branding, the dragon crest and the red shirts have divided opinion.

So, which kits do you remember best? Which is the one you wish Cardiff City still wore now?

Here, we chart the changes and pick out the most iconic shirts worn by Bluebirds players through the generations of struggle, triumph and despair.

It was wrong to change it to blue in the first place, we have been a plastic club since the yellow and brown days.

The robin Friday kit has become more popular since the red has come about, when I got mine in 2009 there was hardly any of them about, for me the south Wales echo kit is Cardiff city, was the first kit my dad got me and I've still got his old one and love it
