After beating Newcastle back in Feb. Sunderland only managed 1 point from their next 24 with a draw at home to Palace. After that poor run they put together the 5500/1 five game run with a draw away at Man City; a win away at Chelsea; a win at home against us; a win away at Man U.; and a win at home to West Brom. I doubt anyone believed they had a chance to pick up 13 points from a possible 15 with those matches, let alone to bet on it happening, especially after their previous form.
