WILL WHITTS BE OUR KEY ?

Wed May 07, 2014 9:38 am

To our fight to regain a top spot in the championship ? After not making much of an appearance for us in the Prem can he once again be the key to bring us some kind of success now were back down ?

The only problem with Whitts is he does go missing for long periods in games ,and his set pieces that were at one time brilliant also seemed to dry up. There is no argument ,that he has the ability to changes games but he also goes hiding and some times its easy to forget he is even on the field of play.

I believe he will again have a big part to play next season , the problem is ,will he shine and will we see the old Whitts

He needs a three man midfield a strong number ten ahead of him to begin breaking down play and get goals and a dogged defensive midfield player behind. That would allow him to do what he does best to create play, start moves and get goals. Only really Ole in the last few games has tried this.

Play Daehli as no 10 behind a strong striker and whitts as a deep lying playmaker. Daehlis best position is no 10, the sooner OGS bloods him into that position the better. Against sunderland he played Deahli too deep. He shouldn't be spending all his energy defending, when he is our best bet (with whitts) unlocking opposition defences.

Please no. That's the main way Malky destroyed him playing him too deep.

New striker

Daehli Whitts New Player

Eikrem New player

The good thing about that is if Daehli cuts inside Whitts can fill in on the left and if he gets the ball he can cross.

Mate, you have the same problem if you keep playing Daehli as winger, he is not an outright winger you won't see his full potential if you'd don't play him as no 10. Get a more direct winger with pace that can run in space. Daehlis so technically gifted he can create space in more crowded areas, Eikrem and Whitts are too similar, wouldn't play them together, would be a really slow midfield. You'd have to pick one of them. I would keep Eikrem to compete with Whitts hopefully Whitts ups his game that way.

This might sound controversial but I think we need to stop playing him so much. For the last 4 or 5 years he has played the majority of our games and every year he fades out after a few months. He would still be a part of the main squad playing a good amount of games but we shouldn't build midfield around him, the midfield needs to be completely overhauled as it was one of our main problems this season with no pace or power.

Whitts has always been one of my favourite players but If we are trying to build something for the future then obviously midfield/attacking play needs to be built around Daehli. Get Noone and a few midfielders with pace, power and a good understanding of the game around him. Stick a quality striker in front of him and i think it could be really exciting.
I am almost glad Medel is leaving as i think its a chance for OGS to get a holding player with more pace. Said it before but the combination of Whitts and Medel was just too slow for Premier League. The build up was painfully slow.

Need to play him to his strengths and get him in on our set pieces so Bellamy can piss off and stop trying to be the master at everything.

-------Guerra
Noone---Daehli---Harris
-------Whitts--Mutch

Thats without signing any other new players
