Besiktas close to agreement with Cardiff City star Gary Medel
2014-05-06

Beşiktaş are close to reaching an agreement with Cardiff City midfielder Gary Medel according to Eurosport Turkey.

The Chile international reportedly has a relegation release clause in his contract which would allow him to leave once the season has finished.

Medel is expected to leave at the end of the season, former Cardiff player Kevin Ratcliffe recently said: "He's captain of his country playing in the World Cup in Brazil this summer. Would you want to come back to play in the Championship after that?"

Valencia and Malaga are also reported to be interested in the Paraguayan international.

The 26-year-old midfielder joined Cardiff from Sevilla in August 2013 for a club-record £11m and has made 40 appearances for the Bluebirds this season.

Medel will captain Chile in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil this summer. Beşiktaş are currently third in the Turkish Super League and will qualify for the Champions League next season.

The Black Eagles are coached by former Croatia national team manager Slaven Bilic.

I'd wait until after the world cup if I was Gary.

Can't be a bad thing getting the deals done early though, we know where we stand going into the window.

Although I like him, I won't be too bothered if he leaves.

I really hope we can get back somewhere near what we paid for him.

I think he's not had anything like the impact this season that he was bought to have. The goals against column would also tend to suggest that he was not in any way successful in his role of protecting the back four although I accept there was only so much he could do on his own.

His time with us was not a success unfortunately for us or him.

I reckon we'll be lucky to get £4m.

Lucky to get 4 million?. Jesus Christ, some absolute cart horses go for that amount. Like genuine crappy players.

He is the captain of Chile and 26 years old, we will easily get £8m+.

A player is only worth what a team is prepared to buy

Re: BESIKTAS IN FOR MEDEL

Anything over 6m and I'll bite their hands off

Re: BESIKTAS IN FOR MEDEL

Id prefer to get players sold before World Cup. Some players will get injured and the last thing we want is Medel, for example, being out for 6 months and us not being able to sell him.

Lets get the money in early and start building early for the new season.

With VT now in direct control of transfers you wonder if we will struggle to sell players because he won't lose money. Maybe he'd look at a loan deal in case we go back up next year.

We lost money on Cornelius so that's rubbish. Tan will want to try and get as much back as possible even if it means taking a slight loss

No thanks.

if we go back up we need players more suited to the PL than a headless chicken thats blowing through his arse after 30 minutes.

He is not the captain of Chile.

Be happy if he goes. He never seemed to give a shit about Cardiff. Don't ask me why I think that because I don't know myself, just always got the impression that he'd rather be somewhere else. We need players who are willing to bleed for the club, a real hard-man in midfield, I'm not too sure where his nickname of 'El Pitbull' came from, he didn't seem to have any presence in the prem.

Someone must have been serving you a bucket of crap if you believe that. Involved from a financial view and in control is two separate things. That said, I believe all parties wish to part ways.

Played well first 8 games and had a good game against the Jacks. Apart from that he has been a massive let down.

Totally agree, the last thing we want is that happening

He said he took a more active role in jan and took credit for Guerra

Absolutely. Ole kept him in the loop with every target and he was involved as he should be. That doesn't mean he is in control of transfers, and if you look up the few statements made on the topic, that is what you will find.

"Earlier on I was generous enough to give our football management too much authority and they went berserk," he said. "They went and did bad business. That was a mistake.
"But now I'm involved, I know the value and I study. Every business I don't know, if I spend enough time - a couple of months - I will know a lot. I know quite a lot about football now. I know the value of players and we won't do stupid things.
"In the January transfer window, I was very involved. We spent about £6m for seven players. In the summer, we signed seven players and committed almost £50m. I want to make sure we spend correctly. If I'm involved, I make better business decisions, getting better value for my money.
"Next summer I'm sure we will do better transfers because I will be personally involved. We're not going to let our manager run wild."

Exactly! And if you compare that statement with Oles it might make some sense to you. He put his money up, Ole find the players and what he thinks they are worth, then the happy family makes decisions together. Or would you repeat the Malky way?
Playing what? Is there a game on here?

Re: BESIKTAS IN FOR MEDEL

He wasn't involved in the summer was involved in jan will be more involved again this summer and won't let the manager run berserk. You're the only saying he's simply in the loop

Frankly as much as I despise tan it's a good thing. About time we played hard ball especially after Malky getting made a fool of three times last summer and that's if you don't count AC.

Re: BESIKTAS IN FOR MEDEL

That link more or less backs up what Marbles is saying I dont see the point of this exchange.

Unless of course you think Tan is going to identify the players needed

Glad we agree :ayatollah: not that I think Ole would run wild. He is a proven business man on building a squad with profit.
But the need for involvement and trust is understandable.

Cheerio Gary, one of the overpriced players we bought

Re: ' Deal virtually done on first City player to leave '

Tue May 06, 2014 2:36 pm

He wont be missed. Not enough to his game. Defensive midfielders in the modern game need to be able to drive forward with the ball a lot more than he does.

The English game is far too fast for him. His fitness was absolutely shocking. After a few decent performances he got to around November and was literally blowing through his arse after 30 minutes every game.

If anyone ran as much as him, they would be "blowing out of their arse".

When his legs move like drumsticks, it doesn't mean he can cover ground. Only that he is short :laughing6:
