Kenwyne Jones

Sun May 04, 2014 6:22 pm

Undoubtedly one of the transfers that stood out for us this season was Odemwinge being swooped for Kenwyne Jones.

Personally I felt we needed neither but Odemwinge had to go and Kenwyne came in. I don't think I've seen one person say he should stay. So i'll be the first.

When we signed Heidur Helguson I was really scratching my head. He was an old fashioned centre forward with height the only real thing on his side.

So does Kenwyne. The championship is a tough league and Helguson was for me a very astute signing who when we were behind, or away at a 'tough' team, he'd come on, get stuck in and always be an outlet. Combine the height of Kenwyne, add a fast nippy Maynard (if he's out on loan?) Or Mason, and you ease the burden on Jones.

He absolutely cannot play as a loan striker, that's obvious. But when we go away to Brentford on a frozen December Tuesday evening, I really think he could do a job.

Drop his wages, get him working on holding the ball up and he's a good option. He needs to be up for the fight though, but I saw in the first game against Norwich he sacked off being a striker and gave what was probably our best centre half performance of the season in the 2nd half.

If he stays or goes. someone need to sit down with him and explain he is at a point in his career where he makes or brake.
Get in good shape preseason, get a haircut and change his attitude. If he don't, he is done playing at top level IMO.
Keeping him at silly wages is not an option.

Release his contract by mutual consent please.

Also Helguson is 5"10

Kenwyne Jones.......Please f**k off your shit and a massive waste of money like many others we have signed this season.

Height on Helguson's side? :laughing5:

He lept like a salmon and I thought he was a good signing, but to suggest he had height on his side, is crazy!

Kenwyne's problem appears to be not so much a lack of talent but an inability to be motivated sufficiently.

That problem can only get worse in a lower league rather than better.

Helguson was a work horse though while Jones is not......at all

Kenwyne does have ability but very little motivation.

Tony Pulis couldn't motivate him.

Good luck with him

Heidur Helgesson was a fantastic signing actually and he probably would have done just as good if not better if he stayed on than KJ.

he was a quality footballer, you got the sense that if 2 or 3 years younger he would have been a lot better. He was a quality footballer with a good brain who played well to his strengths, much like Teddy Sherringham for me.

Yep he knew his inhibitions I think he gestured to the bench to be subbed whenever he was knackered. I bet he was an asset in the dressing room too.

Ahhh Heidar Helguson, one of my favourite players.

Will always remember that header v Hull where he got knocked out hitting the post and continued.

3 assists v Blackburn.

Double v Ipswich.

Helguson we got on a free and fairplay he didn't have put a shift in.

Gutted he left before the parade but was a key player in our fight to go up. :ayatollah:

Well done Dando I was racking my brains as to what game it was...

I sit behind that goal and was in line with it and he knew he was going to tw*t the post but never flinched.....Everything we miss this season, guts and passion

Forgot about Helguson, loved having him in the team. Went for every header and won the majority. And although he wasn't blessed with pace he still got about the pitch, absolute workhorse.

It was great when he came to Chelsea away too :ayatollah:

HH was absolute quality in his day

A little past it when he come to us but he chipped in worked extremely hard and got some vital goals that season

Fantastic man true professional and everything u want in a football player

Not like these modern day pansies who run before they walk and don't know how good they got it

Zaha is the complete opposite of this man!

All the talent in the world but no desire and no appetite for a fight

Spoon fed like all the young players who get too big for their boots

Read bellers autobigrohpy it says all about how hard it was to become pro when he was younger cleaning the first team bouts £50 a week wages etc you had to earn your stripes then and really work for the cause these 15/16 year olds now are on thousands of pounds a week at such a young age goes to their head and less and less make it at the top level and become all they can be because they think they are better than they are and they know it all

Shame really but that's how football has gone cos of the money involved

Harry Redknapp says in his biography that he's so laid back, he's horizontal and is amazed he made a career in the Prem. According to Harry, 50 year old Kevin Bond beat him in bleep tests.
Kenwyne ain't gonna do anything in the Championship, a total and utter waste of money.

It matters not how talented you are if you are a lazy c**t (jones)

Feel sorry for you guys with penguin Jones.coming from a Stoke season ticket holder he is just utter shite.we paid 8 million for him biggest mistake we made. Tony pulis said that Jones on his day is unplayable well in 4 seasons I've never seen him on his day f**k knows who's decision it was to do the swap but I'm sorry to say we got the better deal.fingers crossed that Tony pulis comes back in for him so ya can say buy buy to him.when we signed him our forum was inundated with Sunderland fans saying exactly the same as I'm posting on here.

The thing is Odemwingie was worse for us but he's a looked a different player under a manager who knows how to utilize him. Sometimes Jones looked good but he was so inconsistent and if he wasn't black and built like a brick house I would forget he was on the field.

How do you asses your season by the way? Been a bit of a quiet one for you lot, missing Pulis or was it time to go?

He complemented our squad perfect. Now we have strike force with one who can chase ball, and one to win headers. All we need now is one who can pass, and one who can score.
