'I didn’t make the impact I hoped for and believed I could' admits Cardiff City manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Following relegation to the Championship, Cardiff City manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer admits he has to face facts about his team and himself
Lee Smith Says Ole Gunnar Solskjaer must get it right at Cardiff City this summer
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has admitted he failed to make the impact at Cardiff City he thought he could, as he saw his side limp out of the Premier League at Newcastle.
Cardiff’s 3-0 defeat – coupled with Sunderland’s shock 1-0 win at Manchester United – confirmed the fact that the Bluebirds will be back in the Championship next season.
The failure to launch one last attempt to survive was, according to the visibly emotional Norwegian, the hardest moment of his career, and he claimed his players felt the same.
But while, speaking less than an hour after relegation was made official, he said it was no time for reflection, Solskjaer did stress he wanted talks with owner Vincent Tan as soon as possible to begin plotting a way back to the top-flight.
Cardiff chairman Mehmet Dalman did recently state that Solskjaer had his support, while the former Manchester United striker does want to carry on in South Wales, despite suffering a wretched run of results to lead to this weekend’s formalities.
He said: “I have to face the facts.
“I’m not one to hide, I face things head on and I knew what I was coming into.
“I didn’t make the impact I hoped for and believed I could, but that’s something for me to chew on for a little while.
“The realisation we’re down is very, very disappointing.
“It’s probably the hardest moment in many of those players’ careers – and mine as well.
“But I’m a warrior, might not look like it, but I’ve had times in my football career that were very disappointing and you’ve just got to stand up and fight for yourself.
“I’ve never given up in my career.
“It’s never nice to be relegated but we’ve got to show we can bounce back up".
“The club has been at the top of the Championship for the four seasons before this one, a club used to challenging at the top, and we have to take advantage of that experience and use this one to learn lessons.”
Those lessons are likely to result in a summer of change at the club in terms of the squad, while it will be unclear how owner Tan views Solskjaer’s failure to do what he was ultimately brought in to do.

Very honest

Honest as ever and holds his hand up for relegation, noble man as ever

I think his honesty says a lot. I hope he stays and is given at least a season to make his mark.

Judge him after a full transfer window so he can bring players in that can play his style of football and time in the championship. funny how you talk shit about ole but don't blame the players at all, can't stand fans like you

Well I don't recall him blaming anyone after the West Ham thrashing.

He probably came out with usual management bollox like we played well, they scored their chances. Same as every other manager does.

Well out of his depth unfortunately.
Bought players like Eikrem, Berget and Jones who were never going to help a relegation threatened team.
Has no idea still what his best team is.
Tinkers with the team constantly.
Early and half time changes in many games show that original team selections were woefully wrong.
Seems to have no influence during the game from the touchline.
Appears to be a genuine, likeable young man. I was willing to give him a pre-season and the start of next season, but to be honest, and having seen every game of Ole's tenure, having seen the inexplicable team selections (players in the team one week, not even in the squad the next), and seen some of his tactics over the past few months, I honestly feel that we would be better off starting from absolute scratch for next season.

I've got to agree with that...I felt that it was only fair to give him a chance in the Championship but all those mistakes you've mentioned do not give me any confidence in him at all..Keeping him on will probably delay the inevitable and we don't need to wait for that.

Bring in a proven championship manager. Lets stop making cock ups, just like we did in the pre. OGS got no experience in the brutal championship

Funny statement from coach who lost to Mole. " we lost to the best team in Norway today, no doubt about it! Only trouble is they could change all in their first 11 and still be the best team in Norway" Maybe we should give the guy building that team a chance I recon

He might not have been blaming anyone, he might have been praising the players for staying up, we certainly would have been harder to beat.

It's hard for Ole to say anything else given our league position.
Mon May 05, 2014 9:32 am
Yes honesty will keep us in the Championship next year.
How long before, 'oh we created 420 chances against Leeds United but just couldn't score. They had 3 chances and scored all 3. We didn't deserve to lose today and the lads are very disappointed. We may be bottom but we'll learn from this and ensure that we'll win League One' ?
He's totally out of his depth. We needed change. Ole was not the right one. Malky wouldn't have kept us up either. We rolled the dice and we got Ole and we didn't land a 6. Its time for him to go now and stop the gambles. We need a manager proven at Championship level. Ole is not that manager.

If OGS can have his own players, playing his style of football, ccfc will have a great season.

What is this style of football that OGS wants to play then?? I keep hearing about it but haven't seen any evidence of it.

Do you honestly believe the championship is superior to the Norwegian league.
Do you honestly believe its a tiki taka league or full or big strong athletes willing to give it their all ?
The writing was on the wall for us after 30 mins of Southampton home game. Something went missing, I believe the squad were (are) very loyal to Malky and all the stuff upstairs affected them.
Ole never had a chance no one would anyone except one of the world elites whose reputation would shut out any revolt.
Time to cut the squad dramatically, Ole will know who follows instructions.

It is not. If you had seen the match between Rosenberg and Molde last night, you would realize Cardiff would have a tough time against either.

At the moment we would have trouble against a pub team

It is as a league overall. You just picked two of the teams at the top of it. Nice way to carry your argument. Overall the Championship is a much better league. I don't recall Gareth Bale coming through Molde's academy. The Championship is a very strong league overall that produces some of the best footballers and yes Southampton were in it at the time.
