". Solskjaer won't Quit, " I am here for the long haul "

Sat May 03, 2014 5:23 pm

Cardiff City manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer insists he will not walk away from the club following their relegation from the Premier League.

Cardiff's relegation was confirmed after their 3-0 defeat at Newcastle United which, coupled with Sunderland's win at Manchester United, consigned them to a bottom-three finish.

Solskjaer was appointed Cardiff boss in January as successor to Malky Mackay and, despite failing to guide them to safety, he insists he is at the club for the long haul.

Asked if he would be staying, he told Sky Sports: "Definitely.

"I am the manager of Cardiff City football club and I am not going to lay down and feel sorry for myself.

"We will go into the next game showing professional pride and put in a good performance and then we will plan for next season."

Despite the scoreline, Cardiff had a number of chances at Newcastle and Solskjaer feels they should and could have won.

"It should have been the other way, that is just the story of today and we created an unbelievable amount of good chances but we didn't take them, but that is the most important thing in football scoring goals," he continued.

"First-half we should and could have had three or four and at this level you have to take chances and second-half we could have had three or four again and if you add that up that is a lot."

Before the match Cardiff suffered the loss of Mats Moller Daehli, Gary Medel and Kevin Theophile-Catherine through illness - but the Cardiff boss refused to use that as an excuse.

"We have not had many injured, ill players, and sometimes it catches up with you," he admitted.

"It was an important game and we performed well enough but we just didn't take the chances."

He was also full of praise for the fans and insisted they went into the game determined to give them something to shout about.

"That was a lot of the team talk, we can make such a difference to their lives and they have such a long trip and they are unbelievable and we will give them a good game next week and bounce back up next season."

If you think we could attract any manager with the potential player market Ole is connected to, go grab him!
The downfall this year have been exactly that, not signing premier players. If we are not a top team Christmas next season, then let him go. But the only thing he has proven for us is that you can't turn shit to gold

watched the game, and particularly in the second half we had quite a lot

Lots of chances, apparently we could have scored THREE OR FOUR before half time. If he considers every occasion a red shirt gets in the box a goal scoring chance, then yeah, I guess he's right. He's even got a few of you convinced.

By the way, we scored zero, just as we did in pretty much every other must-win game.

Personally, I prefer honesty.

I think 3 is about right. How the shot from Zaha didnt go in at 28 minutes is unbelievable. What a save that was!
Then you had Cambells shot around 5 minutes, and Kim missed a cross by 1 inch.
Then we had Jones and Gunner in the space of one minute in second half. So yes, he got me convinced by my own eyes :ayatollah:

Sweet! Newcastle had let an average of three goals per game in over the previous six matches. Pleased you're happy we created chances.

See you in the Champ. :laughing6:

It's good news.
I'll give him the summer and half a season to prove. I like his style of football and attitude.
We never had the squad for the Premiership, but will for sure have for the Championship. If we're not top 4 when december come, I will chew off my right foot.

I made that exact comparison in a post yesterday. Ex good players don't always make good managers,,,at any level of football.

I'm all for giving him a chance, after all, he knows what needs to be done, & has the next three/four months to do so.

It will be interesting to see what funds/support he gets from the board of directors in order to achieve this.

The problem is that Cardiff haven't been going to matches believing they can win. Sunderland have shown what the right change can do with Gus Poyet - whilst Cardiff haven't. The players haven't been performing for OGS from day one and if he can turn things around then he'll have done very well. For me, he was the wrong man from day one. Inexperienced as a Premier League manager (or even managing anywhere with any competition) and naïve to work for an owner as ridiculous as Tan. He doesn't look like a manager either. He's got nothing about him.

He won't quit because he'll forfeit a pay off otherwise.

"He doesn't LOOK like a manager either". He he, good one. :laughing6:

He's on 1 year contract by the way.
