Style over Subtance debate....

Everyone is talking about the Chavs tactics lately "parking the bus" to get results, and whether negativity catches up with you and bites you in the ass eventually (i.e. last night).

I think this is worth debating for our club mainly because this season is a perfect example. We were defensive and averaged a point a game in the first half of the season but were painful to watch, and gone for goals in the second half of the season averaged less than a point a game and has been painful to watch (naiive, fool hardy, whatever you want to call it, it hasn't been good enough.)

I'm all for losing if the team show some fight and give it a go, but what would you rather see?

A) sit back, soak it up and hit people on the break or
B) play basketball football and say we'll score try to score 3 today so if you score 4 then fair enough.

(Either way hasn't worked for us this season but I'm curious to see what people think. I think I'm siding with results at all costs regardless of style but I can see both sides - especially as we have tried both this season and failed on all counts!!!)

Pay good money to watch us, I am happy to allow such defensive tactics if we got the players and energy to do it only for some games but when you do it on constant repeat with no other style or tactics every game then it gets boring.

We were not a counter attacking side under Malky. Counter attacking football is played with pace with defensive organisation, not with a 5'9 striker up on his own and 10 players behind the halfway line.

Palace play counter attacking football, 2 DM's to sit while wingers offer outlets to break quickly into space while they have a striker who can win the ball in the air and bring others into play. Chelsea did similar against Liverpool, their style was nothing like ours.

I have nothing wrong with counter attacking football, I mean, who wasn't impressed watching Bayern and Madrid the other day? (Not saying we could play like that) That was how to use counter attacking effectively with players disciplined and hard to break down while having pace on the wings. I don't mind us playing counter attack or trying to grind out a point against tougher teams (See Everton at home) but every game? After spending 50 odd million on players? That's just negative and holding up the white flag before you've even started. Hell, we were playing like that despite having the best squad in the Championship last season.

Got no problem with gritting out results in the Champ but it's not effective in the Premier League. I expected better football with the money spent as well, you change your game when you get promoted otherwise you get caught out

We are trying to get it down and play through midfield and the full backs bombing on. Unfortunately in this division we havent got as much quality as is required and so when we lose the ball we are getting punished but to suggest we are playing a long ball game is absurd.

The last time Turner and Taylor played at home to Palace both Caulker and Medel had a pop at them, Turner especially (Who then went into an incredible sulk) because they kept knocking it long and OGS said after the game there were people not following instructions.

It doesnt take a genius to work out who he was talking about especially as they were both dropped next game.

Why is that?. I'd rather have a organised team than one which tries to play good football but can't because it doesn't understand the basics of football, the fact you have to defend properly.

We were losing under Malky, we are losing under OGS. At least we get to cheer some goals under Ole.

Simple facts are we have a championship squad which is not good enough for this division.

Beggars belief when you consider weve spent 50m this season.

The stats show that we are attacking and controlling the game more under ole. All we need now is a decent striker and defence.

No we didnt Norwich havent spent nowhere near what we spent plus had a better squad than us before any spending having been in the Prem for 2 years. Not a great example either considering they are also getting relegated.
