Dave Jones Come Home

Tue Apr 29, 2014 6:01 pm

If we go down and he can sell Marshall, Caulker, Medel and Jones and get Bellamy off the wage books I think he'd take us straight up. He'd have money to spend and be able to take us up. He never really had money to spend during his time and almost got us up numerous times in times of financial mire. Malky had money to spend.

We played some great stuff in the Championship under Jones but we had a leaky defence. We played clubs off the pitch at times and won 3-1 and 4-0 for fun at times too. They were great games. For all the stick Bothroyd got too he was better than Cornelius, Jones and Gestede combined.

Dave Jones would take us straight back up. Please come home you stubborn and miserable git!!

Stranger things and all that.

Hasn't Tan got advice from Jones recently. Director of Football perhaps.

Hopefully because he found some right bargains. Marshall, Hudson and Whittingham. We need Jones back. Yes he brought in some clowns on loan who didn't contribute to the cause but you could say the same to Zaha who you can obviously see doesn't care at all. Jones with money to spend would take us up then he'd also be shrewd enough in my opinion to get us good deals in the Premier League to keep us up. What he needs is good backing and he never really had that.

I never wanted him gone in the 1st place, people forget he had next to nothing budget wise, if he had the money Malky had we would of got promoted under him easily and we played more attractive football

Re: Dave Jones Come Home

Tue Apr 29, 2014 6:09 pm

From what I have seen from Solskjaer I can't see Jones doing any worse. The worry I would have is Jones record at Sheff Wed in the Championship was hardly inspiring. Another concern is that Jones hardly unified the fans but infact help divide them with his constant digs. with the state the club is currently in the last thing we need is someone who will constantly criticise it's fans.

I don't want to get on Oles back but in 4 months we still don't have a style of play I can recognise and he still doesn't know his best 11.

Re: Dave Jones Come Home

Not going to lie, if Ole gets the sack I could see him coming back

Re: Dave Jones Come Home

Tue Apr 29, 2014 6:19 pm

Jones put on an entertaining enough show on the pitch but relied on individual stars rather than much in the way of team work. Not sure I could go back to never coming back from conceding the first goal and sitting on the edge of our own box as soon as we go 1-0 up but it would have to be better than Solskjaer.

Us people in this part of the world are below him why would he come here !

Very arrogant person and awful manager , the further away from the club he is the better !

No thanks we've been there done that. Even though he did a good job for us he had to go and there is no point going backwards if we want to progress as a football club

I'd love to see what old DJ could do with the budgets that MM had. Always liked DJ's style of attacking football. Always had a goal or two in us. I wouldn't mind him back.

Yeah got to agree with you mate. With MM's funds DJ would have worked wonders. Brilliant attacking football with a defence to match

Not sure what you are confused about ?

He took wolves up with a big budget then got immediately relegated
He had big budgets compared to other teams every year at cardiff and couldn't get the job done
He blew the fa cup final by not having the bollocks to play younger hungrier players like Ramsey
He lost 2/3 play offs with poor tactics and team selections
He blew the play off final again with poor team selection and defensive tactics
He ever had a plan b , if we went behind , we pretty much lost
He took sheff wed up with a decent team and budget then failed the year after .

In nearly 25 years as a manager he has only won 3 honours , 1 play off winner and 2 runners up medals .
He's got more p45s than honours .

His win % as a manager is 40% , nearly always in lower divisions

In my eyes he's a poor manager

I read on here a while back I think that Tan never wanted to sack DJ, anyone know if this is true?

Re: Dave Jones Come Home

Tue Apr 29, 2014 7:51 pm

Always liked dj to be honest but the time was right for him to go. There were times in his final season in charge where he had a front 6 of bothroyd, chopra with bellamy, ramsey, whitts and burke behind them. We should've pissed it. Not sure going back is the right move...i mean he should never manage again for the signing of Bathwater. Biggest wanker I have ever seen between the sticks.

Not sure what you are confused about ?

He took wolves up with a big budget then got immediately relegated

Fair enough
He had big budgets compared to other teams every year at cardiff and couldn't get the job done

In all his time here he only ever spent more than 2m ONCE. Hardly big budgets
He blew the fa cup final by not having the bollocks to play younger hungrier players like Ramsey

I fail to see how this makes him an "awful manager"
He lost 2/3 play offs with poor tactics and team selections

Fair enough
He blew the play off final again with poor team selection and defensive tactics

It was a decent selection and we lost by a single goal, hardly blowing it. We played "defensive" because Blackpool always attacked teams, it has and always will be Holloway's philosophy so DJ tried to counter attack into the inevitable spaces that were left
He ever had a plan b , if we went behind , we pretty much lost

Fair enough
He took sheff wed up with a decent team and budget then failed the year after .

He spent under 2m in his 1 and a half Championship seasons, hardly a decent budget. Also failed at what? He kept them up first season and well he did fail this season but he was given like 300k to spend to improve an already poor side. P.S Jones didn't really take Wednesday up, he just took them over the line after Megson's hard work.

In nearly 25 years as a manager he has only won 3 honours , 1 play off winner and 2 runners up medals .
He's got more p45s than honours .

And Harry Redknapp has won like 3 things as well, what is your point? He made us one of the best sides in the Championship (Also taking us to an FA Cup final)on a low budget. That is good enough for me
His win % as a manager is 40% , nearly always in lower divisions

So is Neil Warnock's yet he has only really managed in the lower leagues. So has Malky, so has Redknapp, so has Moyes. Unless you are managing a really big club you tend to have a low win %.

In my eyes he's a poor manager

Re: Dave Jones Come Home

Ole needs an experienced asst manager, not an experienced DOF. Ole can do fine in the window as proven with a few of his bargains. Bring back Lennie Lawrence

Plus the fact he chose to take to the golf course instead of taking training sessions and his teams were always a soft touch which never had the guts, fight, passion, spirit or battling qualities to deliver success in the Championship. Despite us having the best team on paper by a mile for some games, we still rolled over under Jones if the opposition wanted it more. Can anyone remember us coming back from behind to win under Jones, because I can't!

He said the best team on paper, they certainly weren't out on the pitch. Overall, Dave Jones was better than most managers I've seen at the club, but there's an awful lot of looking through rose tinted spectacles in this thread. During the latter years of his time in charge with us, you could talk about a team "doing a Cardiff" and people would know what you meant - we bottled it when it came to the end of the season, just like his Wolves side which blew promotion when something like ten points clear did in 2002.

I also remember having to write off the month of November every season while Dave Jones was in charge - God knows why, but our record in that month was appalling under Jones.

Never forgave him for the boro game we lost three nil. The team trained twice in eight days leading up to that game whilst he hit the vale golf course daily.
It was a well known fact back then that burton and Bellamy took training during the week whilst he watched from the sidelines or improved his handicap and he only got involved to pick the team on a Friday afternoon.
It was Bellamy who convinced the Malaysians that he was not the man to take us forward.

Re: Dave Jones Come Home

Jones has had his time and I was a big fan of the work he done in his time here.

Took us from relegation candidates to a promotion chasers year on year with no money and one hand tied behind his back, constatntly selling his best players.

Lesser managers would have crumbled, not got us knocking on the door to the PL.

However, its time to look forward not back.

OGS needs a summer transfer window before being hung out to dry.

Re: Dave Jones Come Home

Wed Apr 30, 2014 7:45 am

Jones did miracles when he first came here but he went at the right time. I think some people are forgetting what a demoralising mess we were in when he left. It shows how bad things have got now!

They say never go back and I believe that should be the case in this instance. Failed to get us promoted year after year and wouldn't get us up if he came back. Just look at how he did at Sheffield Wednesday. Still making the same mistakes by buying individuals rather than building a team and almost took them down.

Ridsdale blew a lot of the clubs money on himself!!!!

In DJ's defence you can offset the money he made the club. ie Signing Roger Johnson for 250k and selling for 20 times more.
