Liverpool fans fighting again

Mon Apr 28, 2014 9:41 pm

Liverpool fans were fighting outside Anfield with Chelsea fans on Sunday just weeks after causing trouble in Cardiff and looking for fights down here.

See how they are trying to blame Chelsea fans for disrespecting the 96 but police reckon there are no reports of anything about that claim.

Fighting broke out between a small number of rival Chelsea and Liverpool supporters on Anfield Road following yesterday's match, which the Reds lost 2-0.

Officers today confirmed four arrests were made after the game after what the force described as "minor altercations".

Contrary to rumours circulating on social media, the force said no reports had been received of a Chelsea fan spitting on the Hillsborough memorial.

One man was arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly and was given a fixed penalty notice.

Two men were arrested on suspicion of a breach of the peace and subsequently released without charge.

And a 35-year-old man, named as Joseph Farrelly, of Baythorne Road, Walton, was arrested and charged with a public order offence.

He is due to appear before Liverpool magistrates on Tuesday, May 20.

Match Commander Carl Krueger said no-one was reported as injured following the incidents and no reports of assault had been received by police.

He said: "Officers dealt with some minor disturbances between rival fans following the match, following which four men were arrested.

”I would like to reassure fans and the Anfield community that these incidents only involved a small number of people.

"Officers are continuing to make enquiries and look through CCTV from the area to identify the people responsible and make sure they are brought to justice."

Tensions were high after a frustrating 90 minutes for Liverpool - in which Brendan Rodgers accused Jose Mourinho's team of parking 'two buses'.

Anger had also been sparked when members of the Chelsea faithful allegedly started mocking Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard in their chants.

Gerrard had a moment to forget after his slip allowed Senegalese striker Demba Ba to score the opener for Chelsea, with ex-Red Fernando Torres setting up the winner in injury time.

No excuse for that. The 96 should always be respected and remembered as should the heysel 39. Sadly Liverpool fans seem to forget the murdered Italians.

Liverpool fans are probably my least favourite in the premier league. They still turn up ticketless at games. They cause trouble regularly yet the mail article is the first bit of trouble that I have read about. Really hope that man city win league.

The police are describing it as minor altercations and it probably was as it was right outside the away end. Goes to show how watered down FV is now when minor trouble gets a big report in national media.

Me too, mate. Me too. Everton are the peoples club in Liverpool with The Kop largely populated by plastics from North Wales (about as Welsh as Venezuela), Northampton and Norway. Thankfully they might bottle it now. Grinding those wins out when the pressure is on is so difficult. We've been there.

Good luck with whatever happens to you this season and next. The rebrand was so sad and I'm pleased so many of your fans have shunned the chance to embrace it. You're the Bluebirds.

I couldn't give a shit who wins the league provided we stay up! Never trust photos like this to judge who is in the right or wrong. All clubs have good and bad elements. I will say though that every Liverpool fan I know has been unbearable over recent weeks with regards to the Premier League title so God help us if they do win it!

i was having a beer and a chat with my chelsea mates under the stand when the incident happened. cfc hadn't stopped sing in the bar area for a good half hour earlier there was no planned disruption. i didn't know that the minutes silence had started prob due to being on the beer all day.

BTW i enjoyed the jacks to our right chanting chelsea run from cardiff made me chuckle
