The idea of the bonus point what I mean by this is over 2 legs,
The team who wins the tie over the two games gets an additional point so effectively the double could be worth 7 points to a team.
more to play for also making every return game more exciting for both clubs..
As both have the chance to take 4 points on the return game.
making more competitive but rewarding for the sidesm it might even open up the game to a more all out attacking approach as that extra point can be huge

I think I agree, the end of the season would be mad with some teams playing for four points, and jumping each other, I wonder how the table would look now if that rule was already in place ???

I don't agree with this one, penalties are a circus and the stadium would be empty by the time the last kick was taken.

Only thing that needs to be done is like the Spanish league
If your joint top with someone go on head to heads not goal difference
Like relegation places if u finish joint 17th&18th should go on head to heads between the 2 teams during the season if it's draw then goal diff

Why not give teams an extra 1pt if they win that game by 3 clear goals - would give most games open football
Don't think we would pick up that extra point

To be honest, if that was the system already we'd be down. That'd be Sunderland with an extra point from the game the other day. Swansea would have one too.
How about extra points for conceding loads and scoring as few as possible? We're good at that.

Christ! I was hoping you would not be around for years to come!
Anyway. Back to bonus points. A bad idea in my opinion you only have to look at the bonus point system in rugby to see how unbalanced it is and a right mess, installed just because they wanted to make the game more attractive to housewives, girls and people who could not understand or appreciate the traditional game.
Same goes for football Three points is an improvement on the two points for a win system which takes the competitiveness of the division right down to the wire. No need to change anything.

Good to have fresh ideas.I think the extra point though would effectively create two leagues with a huge gap between top half and bottom.A great idea used when my lads were playing in junior tournaments was a point (or half) for the losing team based on the second half.Teams three or four down at half time had little chance of winning but the bonus made the second half relevant and more entertaining trying for a draw or sneaking a goal when winning team possible taking foot off the gas with their lead

Leave 3 players in the opposition half at all times.
That would lead to a more entertaining game and Malky would never work again.

I can't help but feel it's only a matter of time before the FA introduce some kind of bonus point Americanized rule. The most likely would be a penalty shootout or extra time after a draw for the opportunity to win 2 points instead of 1 point.
I think it should stay as it is though.

If you score 8 goals or more and win, 4 points.. not really going with that idea but be interesting to see teams actually go for it if their in the title race.
