Financial Implications If Relegated

Tue Apr 22, 2014 12:04 pm

My understanding of parachute payments if we are relegated is that the club will receive £15 million in their first season in the championship. We will inevitably have to offload our higher earners, and any profit made on the sale of these players would surely have to be used to reduce club debts, as Tan is not going to treat us as a charity. I can't see a huge amount of money being made available a second time in an attempt to regain Premiership status.
If we are relegated, we are going to have to be very clever in the transfer market, and have to have a manager who has knowledge of lower league players. Not sure if OGS is in the know as far as lower league bargains are concerned, but obviously knows a bit about Norwegian league potential.
Think the next few games are more important than a lot of people think, because if we are relegated, it could be a very long wait before we return to the top flight. In fact, I think there is a better argument for us suffering relegation from the championship rather than being promoted back to the championship.
Will be watching from afar, work means I will be here for the Sunderland match, but not back in Wales until end of year after that. Hope I return to a more settled club, still playing Premiership football.

Tan put in about £20m in our promotion season including £10m on transfer fees. So I don't foresee Tan having to put more money in. We haven't given many existing players new contracts, I can only think of Marshall. The new guys might be on bigger wages but apparently that's not true of Ole's signings. I imagine Caulker, Bellamy and Medel are all big earners who will leave in the summer. If we got £20m in fees for Caulker, Medel and Marshall we would probably make a profit next year with the £15m parachute payment.

Kenwyne Jones is likely to be our highest earner next season :ole:

I would think we would sell a player players along the line of Marshall, Caulker, Medel to recoup some fees along with a few other, if we can get 20m for main 3 and then give Ole say 5-10m to bring in a striker then I think we would be ok.

We have Campbell, Jones, Mason, Maynard plus Berget up front. I either want Kim to sort himself out so he is back to where he was last year or Ole to bring in more pace and creativity in midfield, that plus a goalkeeper is where I would spend his £5-10m. Maybe he will bring the Molde keeper over that we were linked with.

Id look to move on Mason and Maynard, maybe Jones if possible.

Parachute payments increased this year with the new tv deal from 48m to 60m over four years. I think we would get 23m in the first season. Add that to selling Medal, Marshall, Caulker and not renewing Bellamy s contract and we should have a good summer kitty.

The parachute payments structure for relegated clubs from the Premiership is £59 million spread over 4 seasons

First Season ...... £23 million

Second Season ....... £18 million

Third Season ...... £9 million

Fourth Season ...... £9 million

If Cardiff are relegated and with the probable exit of our better players who would command a fee

There should be enough money for Ole to build his own team to mount a serious challenge next season

There are players on big money here that have'nt justified the outlay by the club , and needs to be addressed

Premiership Safety or Relegation , major surgery is required

I think Jones, Cambell, Mutch, Medel and Coulker will defo be sold. Maybe even Noone will go. From what im told there is a couple of players lined up to come in on free transfer, even a top striker. Time will tell, but the club is in desperate need of a restructure and cut cost. Hard lesson learned from last summer :ayatollah:

I stand corrected on my figures at beginning of thread. Doing it from memory, and forgot that TV revenue increased. Even so, will be interesting to see how much is made available, and how much will be used to reduce debt.
