Are our players fit enough?

Sun Apr 20, 2014 2:25 pm

I have been wondering for some time now whether our players are fit enough. In particular, Kimbo, Medel and KTC ( Mutch to a lesser extent) have been absolutely blowing out of their arses in most of the games they have played by about the 70th minute.

It can't be the high tempo at which we play ( we don't). It can't be because of the pressing game we play ( we don't) it can't be chasing round trying to win the ball back when we lose it (we don't), although I accept that Medel runs around like a headless chicken for mosy of the game.

The large amount of late goals we have conceded this season ( there would have been even more except for Marshall - yesterday and Villa at home) would tend to suggest that we are having difficulty physically and mentally getting to the end of the game.

Maybe the palyers need to get fitter.

I have been thinking the same. I have been concerned for a long time how our opponents always seem to finish games more strongly than us.

Teams finished the end of games stronger than us under malky, but under ole we seem to go the full 90. More points were stolen at the death under malky than under ole, as we were out on our feet with 11 men behind the ball.

KTC always looks fucked after 60 minutes

I think that's the thing Ole seems to be not so bad is the conditioning of players. Everyone has a dig at the team selection changing but need to remember some players will pick up a small knock or the fact MM drove the players into the ground for hard work. I think MM needed to condition some of our players on times.

f*cking hell people will take any opportunity to abuse Malky. Ole's been here long enough, him and his staff will know how to make a player fitter and bring them back to a good condition.

Sod all to do with the managers, fitness is ultimately down to the players. Although it's not as of they're unfit, the only ones who don't do a lot of running are Jones, Zaha and Whitts, everyone else puts in an shift in fairness.

Medel has awful stamina. That is why he will not get any takers from Premier League clubs because he can't adapt to the tempo of the league. Kim does do quite a bit of harrying when playing and KTC has to run up and down the pitch all game so that is why he is so knackered and Mutch obviously has been carrying knocks all season.

Also Dando, you're boring. Stop mentioning Malky at every turn ffs. It's just a case of players having poor stamina and being exhausted mentality and physically.

Weren't a major dig and as much as I enjoyed the effort and 100% from each player when playing under MM, there was some players who needed the rest and need better conditioning and that is a well known fact, Whittingham was one and only til April did he decide to drop him when it was clear as day he was knackered.

How can you put the full blame on players and not on managers then you need a re-think.

Some players can't play week in week out due to an injury from before and some just can't play week in week out.. conditioning of players is more of a factor.

Its unfair on the full backs, they don't half put a shift in.

I do worry about Medel and Kimo's ability to last 90 mins over here.

Of course MM takes some blame but again you've managed to mention him in a thread again :sleepy2: Ole and our fitness coaches should have been mentioned as well.

Yeah KTC although pretty limited footballing wise I always appreciate his effort. Medel's fitness went down drastically in November which funnily enough was when he started playing bad.

The thread was based on players being fit enough in which I have always had the opinion that some players for us weren't conditioned well under MM.

Mutch looked slightly unfit on Saturday, Ole should of brought him off for Eikrem.

your kidding yourself.............Malkys teams played mostly without the ball, draining and frustrating.....his record both here and at his previous club showd fatigue setting in around late Feb, and a tail off in results in each of his 4 seasons as a manager.......

Bang on the money and that's the reason I thought Malky would never keep us up and I believe the fall off had already begun in December
I think the team is lasting better under ole but we are stiil dropping off the pace Although against stoke I thought the substitutions we made seemed to take the momentum out of our play.
