HAS ZAHA HAD TALENT COACHED OUT OF HIM ?

Sun Apr 20, 2014 11:15 am

I read these paragraphs in a Daily Mail column which threw up a number of questions, I enjoyed reading the thought provoking piece, but this one struck a chord with me in particular.

I have wrote on here previously that I have been dismayed by Zaha's reluctance in a few games to exploit the space behind full backs and use his pace and skill to go round the outside of a defender but instead chooses to square the ball inside or backwards.

Here is a brief section of the article :

Has Wilfried Zaha had all the talent coached out of him?

He can be electric on his day. But this was not his day.

Whether he wasn’t on form, or Cardiff tired generally, Zaha’s appearance as a 60th minute substitute signalled the end of the home side’s domination of the game. He tried to make an impact, switching wings from right to left, but with no joy.

It’s a shame. Zaha has all the talent in the world, but he seems to have lost his confidence. Maybe the move to Manchester United wasn’t the right one, maybe it will eventually work out.

Has he had the talent coached out of him? He always seems to check back, go backwards, rather than do what he was so brilliant at – take his full back on and get the crowd on its feet.

I think he is rubbish and lazy. The most overrated player I've seen.

Plays well away from home recently. Brilliant v West Brom and Saints.

The thing is when we played Palace in cup semis and in the league over the years this place would be full of threads saying how shite and over rated he was. As soon as we sign him he's the future of the premier league, just not the case. He's average and no where near top ten premier league standard. A bit of a Scott Sinclair really.

I agree with the part that the introduction of Zaha took the wind out of his sails. As for being over coached I think he needs to realise the basics come before the show ponying.

I think he has quite a bit more to his game than Scott Sinclair.

Hopefully he will show evidence of that in the next three games.

He seems to be a confidence player and his performance against Southampton will have helped, after his poor showing and ultimately the fans booing against Palace would have knocked him.

Yesterday he was working hard to win the ball back and seemed to give a damn and muck in with the rest of the team.

No (he has not had the talent coached out of him).
He is a bit hit or miss But he is a very talented player - one of our best.
If you cant see that go to specsavers! :geek:

Also when it showed the bench when Whitts scored, he was the only sub stood up beaming with a smile clapping and shouting. Looks like he is up for the battle anyway.

From what I have seen Scott Sinclair is or was a far superior player.

He showed a lot of spirit yesterday and i thought he gave it his all when he came on even though he didn't have much of an impact. I agree with the assessment that he is a confidence player and seems to have had the confidence knocked out of him at united. But there is also a lot he needs to improve on, movement off the ball, tactical skills, reading of the game. He can't just get by on being quick and strong in the PL.

Which Scott Sinclair is that Ian?

Because it certainly ain't the one who played for Swansea and then to Man City.

Got to say Sinclair is no where near as good as Zaha. Sinclair was a one trick pony - even the jacks said it. Zaha has more to him game when on song.

Hes crap and always has been. I got slated on here for saying I wanted the crybaby Tom Ince instead. Ince is a much better player than him and outperformed him at Championship level too. The media just love their London clubs and Palace were no exception so it was hardly surprising to find them creaming themselves over Zaha rather than Ince plying his trade up north for Blackpool.

You were calling him a great talent and a future England star just a few months ago.

Hopefully he will be involved v Sunderland coming off the bench or maybe starting.

When he came on v Southampton he kept us attacking on the counter instead of being on the back foot on repeat.

It's evident that we need to play him behind the striker. Has very little impact on the wing.

He give Fonte and Lovren a merry dance v Southampton, I think if he isn't delivering on the wing he should drift into the central roll.

Wonder what defence Sunderland will play.

Exactly.

I was thinking that. They had 3 at the back for a bit. How did they play vs Chelsea do you know? Formation wise?
