Just saw the news and they say they haven't got the resources to look after people with dementia(altzeimers)and the homeless situation is critical due to lack of funding.Add that to the recent death of a man who waited 9 hours for an ambulance that never came and taking money off the disabled to cover the black holes this country created.So why the f**k do we raise all this money(hundreds of millions)through sports aid etc to give it to another country when ours is a total f**k up!!
It is a personal thing this,as a family member of mine has dementia and she has to sell her house to pay for her care.

I have also experienced the shambles we call the NHS recently .

Yes my mother in law has Alzheimer's and has to pay for her care by selling her property while you get all these foreigners flocking here and being cared for without contributing f**k all. Whilst I agree in principle, I do believe they use an awful lot of the money from these charity telethons in the UK itself. And it's an interesting debate over whether or not we have played a role in the poverty and underdevelopment observed in Africa and Asia - on the surface you'd think not but dig deep into international relations, trade and politics and I think you'd find that the Western world (and China) should take some blame for the lack of development and poverty in these countries through both colonialist activities in the times of the empires and also modern day trading and development aid which is grossly unfair. Check out the ideas of a potential 'dependency theory' if you are interested. Not trying to discount the role of some of the terrible governments in these parts of the world AND importantly I'm not trying to suggest that we shouldn't be spending aid money on critical illnesses like dementia and cancer.

But, why should we (as individuals/country) not help fellow man solely based on a race, religion or nationality?

Everyone knows where the money goes when it is pledged so cannot see the problem. People actively pledge to help countries that are poverty stricken with high death rates from easily cureable diseases.

Try Ireland then lads....trust me you would not complain about the NHS. Costs me €50 just to see the doc. As I am not doing to well health wise at the moment, my prescriptions are costing me €140 a month. Was back home in Cardiff last week and was in a bad way. Got all my tabs including morphine for free.

To be quite honest, most policy's that "Labour" in Wales push through in the National Assembly are a complete joke.

The so called "Assembly members" are so unprofessional as politicians - It's like the blind leading the Blind - they are a joke !!! (and it's begging to show on Health and Education)

As usual Labour will f-ck it up by throwing our money away, again and again and the most frightening thing is that the good people of Wales will keep on electing Labour ,so called politicians, as they see no alternative.

If you think we need the aid money compared to some of the countries we give to you want to have a look at yourself.

You have enough money to go to watch cardiff play, yet you bitch and moan about giving aid to countries where people die every few seconds from not having something as basic as clean water.

The West has given Aid to African countries for decades and yet it has got worse not better. If there is poverty and famine in one of these countries through armed conflict like Somalia or through a dictator like Zimbabwe, it is too risky or not allowed for aid workers on the ground. The aid is given often given by Government to Government transfers, stolen by those administered for distribution and spent on manufacturing plants that require more energy than is available for the entire regions. The results are that a minority get very rich, the problems continue and more and more waves of people leave for a life in the West as they think we're a soft touch. Read the links below.
