Sunderland - Free Fall

Wed Apr 16, 2014 9:25 am

On 1st Feb Sunderland beat Newcastle away 3-0.

Since then they have played 8 games - Drawn 1 and lost 7. They have lost their last 5 games. For 4 goals Against 18 goals.

They have Man City tonight and then Chelsea away on Saturday ! They also have Man Utd away.

That is a team in free fall.

They still have to play us, West Brom and Swansea at home but it may too late for them by then.

a bit, but both away to stoke is a tough fixture. I can see them losing both their away matches. But those home games! :(

Football is played on grass not paper. Not many gave us a chance at Southampton last week. I certainly didnt.

This stage of the season throws up some weird results so I think there will be some twists and turns to come.

Still got an uneasy feeling that conceding a very late goal against them between Christmas and New Year could cost us dearly. Hope I'm wrong!

Not really, I'd say both results tonight were unpredicted.

More referring to the fact it was a draw than a win for them.

Yes it was a weird result but it could have been a lot more weird and thankfully it wasn't if you get my drift.

Gus backs side after City point

Poyet buoyed by Etihad show.
Sunderland head coach Gus Poyet watched his side turn in a sterling performance against Manchester City and almost head back to Wearside with maximum points in the bag after a hard-fought game in the north west.
After the clash, Poyet declared: “The message we wanted to send is that we’re still here, still prepared to battle and fight for this football club and I think we did that tonight!”
Sunderland were denied all three points at the Etihad Stadium after a late Samir Nasri goal ensured that the title-chasing Blues took a share of the spoils.
Fernandinho put the hosts in front within the first two minutes of the game but after that the Black Cats dominated proceedings.
Their hard work was rewarded in the 73rd minute when Connor Wickham struck to pull Sunderland level, before he gave the visitors the lead 10 minutes later with a stunning goal.
It was Nasri who cruelly dashed Sunderland’s hopes of a first win since early February as the Frenchman’s shot was spilled over the line by goalkeeper Vito Mannone.
“Yes, we conceded a goal after two minutes,” Poyet explained. “But that doesn’t matter, we’re the same team and you have to go out there and continue to play the way you know you can.

It's been a season of change with a new manager, players and hangover of last season to shake off. Mancini had lost the dressing room and the whole club needed a lift throughout. Sorry we couldn't do you a favour but I wouldn't read too much in to the 2-2 draw. No Yaya Toure and Silva is always going to weaken us and Sunderland had everything to play for. We'll fight to the end but 3rd is looking a possibility now...

My bets last night were shocking. I went for City and Everton to win!
