Saints Win Can Be The Catalyst - Ole

Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has said that he believes today's victory over Southampton can inspire Cardiff and be the catalyst for our Premiership survival now over the coming games.

It was looking very unlikely and I imagine given our form many would've been relatively happy with a point today given the season Southampton have had, but we pulled off the almost impossible today and we have now lifted ourselves to within three points of getting out of the bottom three.

Speaking to the press following the game and the winning goal from centre half Juan Cala, Solskjaer was obviously delighted with the days work.

'It was a good performance. We've had some very good performances before that I've been proud of, but I have been sat here talking about bad luck and missed chances. But today, we got that little bit of luck. They were all fantastic, they all did their jobs and the atmosphere in the changing room was great afterwards.'

With four games to go Ole will definitely be wanting to build on the three victories he has now overseen in the league, and there are teams still well in this with us so we do really just need to build on this now and hopefully pick up back to back victories as the table should certainly look better on the eye then.

If we can get that win against Stoke now and then other results do go in favour, we will have given ourselves every chance, but it's no good results going for us if we don't pick up maximum points.

Of course today is not only nice to get back to talking about a win, it's just nice to get back to football fullstop given further off pitch issues surrounding the club and Solskjaer says in some ways he feels over the week it has helped galvanise the team further.

'Yes, we've had issues but I'll deal with it and the players just focus on the football. We've ended this week on a high but it's back to square one next week and it will be about performing on the day. This will mean nothing if we don't do it on the pitch.'

The gaffer also picked out goalkeeper David Marshall and Peter Whittingham for their performances on the day as well, especially given Whitts' lack of involvement of late but Ole says he will play his part in the remaining four games.

It's a start, though, and Ole wants to convey a positive atmosphere around the club...

Hmmm, positivity at Cardiff City FC in 2014?? Perhaps that's where he's going wrong!!

I swear some people WANT relegation, as it provides better ammunition for their negativity

Fulham are away to Spurs and kick off at 12.45 so we'll know their result before kick off....Jacks are away to Newcastle....Sunderland are away to Chelsea and kick off at 5.30...Norwich at home to Liverpool on the Sunday....WBA away to Man City on the Monday....If we beat Stoke on Saturday with Sunderland and then Newcastle to come.....every chance I reckon for the great escape :bluescarf:

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer uses Manchester United on-field memories for Cardiff relegation battle
Cardiff City manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer draws on Man Utd memories, 'mad' stress of team leak before Crystal Palace and spirited Southampton win to positively attack relegation threat

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believes he can use his experience as a player at all-conquering Manchester United to keep Cardiff in the Premier League.
The Norwegian won the division six times with United and has a fighting chance of preventing his new club from falling out of it after a spirited win at Southampton.
“It’s a different situation but you prepare during the week and you perform on the day,” said Solskjaer of his immediate task. “That’s all that matters. It doesn’t matter if you’ve got to beat Liverpool to win the league or if you need a result against Southampton to stay in the league.”
This was a contest dominated by the Saints in terms of possession and chances but the decisive moment came when defender Juan Cala fashioned and executed a chance midway through the second half.
It meant that a week shrouded in turmoil ended in triumph though Solskjaer concedes that the controversy surrounding leaked team news ahead of last week’s defeat to Crystal Palace led to sleepless nights.
