OLE: TIME TO RESPOND
Friday 11th April 2014
by Steve Garland
City boss fully focused on tough Saints test
I hate losing, I don’t like losing. It’s about getting the job done for Cardiff City, the players, the fans, everyone."
Ole Gunnar Solskjær
Ole Gunnar Solskjær has seen the response he was looking for from his players this week, following last weekend’s disappointing result against Crystal Palace.
With five games remaining for the Bluebirds to claim the points required for Barclays Premier League survival, City travel to Southampton and St Mary’s Stadium on Saturday determined to bounce back from last weekend’s defeat and spark a final push for safety.
Speaking ahead of City’s clash with Saints, Ole said: “It did hurt them, we hold our hands up it wasn’t good enough, but I’m sure we’ll see a response on Saturday. You sometimes need something to galvanise you - that was there in training this week and I’m sure we’ll see a reaction.
“We’ve got to believe in it and give 100%. The lads have shown that belief this week and will go into the game on Saturday with the fight needed to get a result. I hate losing, I don’t like losing. It’s about getting the job done for Cardiff City, the players, the fans, everyone.
“I’ve got absolutely no reason to doubt any of my players. Their professionalism, loyalty and integrity is there. Saturday will be tough, but we’re ready for it.”
The news that Craig Noone will most probably miss the rest of the season through injury came as an untimely blow to the City manager in the week, with striker Kenwyne Jones also a doubt for Saturday’s trip to the South Coast.
“Craig is a fantastic player, he’s great in the dressing room and has had a fantastic season,” said Ole. “We’ve got to try and find a way of working without him now though because he’s a big part of our squad.
“Kenwyne Jones took a really bad whack against Crystal Palace to his kidneys. He’s getting tested today and we should know if he’s available for tomorrow.”
Turning his thoughts to City’s opponents on Saturday, Ole praised the performance of Mauricio Pochettino’s side in their second season back in the top flight, saying: “Southampton deserve to be where they are because they’re a great club. We can look at them and take inspiration because they play a brand of football that I’d really, really like to see my team play.
“We can sit here for hours and talk about Southampton, we know what kind of side they are. It’s a tough challenge, but that’s been my focus all week.
“We need to make sure that the fans know that we do appreciate them because they’ve been absolutely incredible, we need to show that in our performances. It’ll be tough but we’re ready for it.”

It was time to respond when we lost 2-0 against Westham, 4-0 against Hull and drew 3-3 with WBA
We haven't been good enough and OGS is a great guy - but in my opinion its time to be realistic, accept there is no way in hell that we are staying up & start planning for next season
Cue the outrage - but we have heard this speech from OGS after every disappointing result & there hasn't been any substance behind the words - we are not going to stay up this season

Not say you are wrong, but would we acheive by doing what you suggest?

ole was the wrong man brought in at the wrong time. but thats not to say he's a bad manager he may just need time to do his own thing with his own squad next season. if we go down and he takes us straight back up then he will have proved himself ..

Playing some of our younger players to gain experience against the less intimidating teams (Southampton stoke Newcastle) & putting less pressure and expectation on our players by setting the now unrealistic target of staying up
Coming out every week and saying that we have fight and its time to respond is just not helping at all

I'm not saying hes a bad manager - any manager would have struggled with the enormous task placed on him by Vincent Tan
I hope he does stay with us next season as we sure as shit aren't going to get anyone better and I think that OGS has dealt with a lot of the bullshit from VT since he has joined
I think that over summer he could sort out our team out and start a positive campaign for promotion next season - the only issue is that if he did get us promoted again would VT have the patience to keep him as the manager.. I don't think so
I would be fairly surprised if he doesn't get sacked at the end of the season to be honest

maybe we will not stay up......but i will believe we can until it is impossible...........2 questions..what exactly would you like our manager to say.?
and how do you prepare for the championship in the premiership with players who might not even be here?

There are so often results that act as a catalyst for a series of performances, often accompanied by results.
In sporting terms, they are called significant emotional events. These are events, good or bad that are so important that they actually have a significant effect on an individual or team. It happens in every day life too.
Last season, our most significant catalyst game was the 5-4 defeat by Charlton. Malky got his team playing defence first after that and we went on a run that moved us away from the chasing pack.
The 0-4 Hull game was a catalyst for a series of games where our performances deserved more in the way of results.
We scored 10 goals in 4 games, beat Fulham 3-1, drew with WBA with a never say die attitude from some of our players (including Zaha), lost narrowly and gave Spurs and Everton a run for their money and for the first half against the PL's in form team, Liverpool we matched and in most people's opinion were the better team in that first half.
I'm hoping and praying, as someone who has no control over the team, that the Palace debacle will act as another catalyst game for City's remaining five games.
I hope EVERY City fan can get behind OUR team and become their 12th man and not the 12th man for the opposition.

same happened at Leeds a few years back when they began their drop.
We will be the next Leeds I fear. The club is rotten from the inside out. It's going to take years to get rid of it.
As much as I loved Malky there are claims he took bonuses etc, which I imagine the club knew about.
Poor OGS, I have slated him, but the bloke doesn't have a hope.
On the other side, Palace should be punished for what they have done. Insider trading, illegal match fixing?
Our club is on the way down.

Buzz word bollocks just saying what he has to say. Not having a go as he kind of has to say shite like this with the media but we NEED to see the changes on the field.
We're playing awful and deservedly losing and who would actually have faith in Ole next year if he only got 1 more point all season. Not matter what continuous crap he comes out with I wouldn't.

He is coming out in the press with what all managers say he's no different. I just hope in the confines of the dressing room he's teared a new asshole off a few of them for their inept performances lately.

I would stick with him as you have to remember Malky was a defensive minded manager and he bought the majority of players here now. Ole is more an attack minded manager so the players here now are not suited to his playing style. He needs at least a transfer window to get the players that suit his playing style

Good to hear OGS saying that last weeks performance galvanised the team this week.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/26898538Possibly the off field situation could also work in our favour too, as it can become a backs to the wall, war of attrition, siege type mentality, similar to the approach that Sir Alex F created at Man Utd.
First 60 minutes in fairness, I thought the poor passing and inability to retain possession suggested that the players were affected negatively about the poor, or reduced input from the analysts at Cardiff. But their determination and defensive formation was relatively solid.
OGS made a great substitution bring on Zaha for Medel and we scored 4 minutes later.
Great result and now we move on with some more confidence of another solid and effective performance for Stoke.
It's up to City fans now to REALLY show OUR team what great supporters we can be. Let's ne their 12th man. Let's make Stoke players uncomfortable on the ball. Let's make CCS rock and let's help OUR team put on a great performance.
