APPEAL: Kenwyne Jones has returned to Stoke City to appeal against a club fine. He left the club in January to join Cardiff City in exchange for Peter Odemwingie.

FORMER Stoke striker Kenwyne Jones has met with club chairman Peter Coates to appeal his near £75,000 fine for refusing to play a game against Liverpool in January.

Jones was fined two weeks' wages after informing manager Mark Hughes by text that he was unavailable to play.

The Trindadian was upset at his club career stalling at the Britannia and wanted to bring attention to his plight.

Stoke were furious at his no-show and slapped the maximum two-week fine on him.

He has since left for Cardiff in a swap deal which brought Peter Odemwingie to the Potteries.

Stoke must now decide whether to reduce or maintain the fine following yesterday's appeal hearing.

Jones has recourse to the Premier League if he is unhappy with their decision.

His decision to appeal, which was made with the assistance of the PFA, will infuriate those Stoke fans still angered by his refusal to play in the Liverpool game.

The fixture, which Stoke lost 5-3, was live on TV and came at a time when Stoke's Premier League future was far from certain.

Maybe this goes to show that the only way we can get people to join this Joke of a set up is to throw as much money as we can at them

And for the record I don't blame Malky, Moody or OGS for the amount of money we spend on players wages/transfer fees

Of course Malky overspent on his players, Cornelius went from 6k a week to 45k a week..

It was a swap for Odemwingy, I can only guess but id be amazed if he wasnt on at least 30k a week. So adding 7k onto the wage bill for someone 3 years younger isnt the worst decision in the world. problem is both have been poor signing but in January you have to take what you can get.

Malky overpaid in the case of Cornelius. 45k a week and 8 mill was not his market price as for the rest I don't believe he did anything anyone else isnt doing.
