Team for next season in the Championship.

Sat Apr 05, 2014 5:46 pm

Presuming Marshall, Caulks and Medel leave us, what are the key areas to strengthen next season, I think its fair to assume we are going down after that shower of shit today.

Would you trust Campbell get goals in the Championship? I think we may stick with Declan at LB, id like to see the back of Turner personally.

I think Ole (assuminh he doesnt get the boot) will have to work with a low budget, cant see Tan throwing more millions at us.

GK - Lewis (unproven)

Def - John Cala KTC Fabio

Midfield - Noone Mutch Eikrem/Kim Daehli

Strikers - Campbell and ?????

Molde's Keeper
KTC Hudson Cala Fabio
Dæhli Eikrem Gunnar Kim
Mason
Campbell

Lewis, Brayford, Turner, Kim, Whitts, Jones, Maynard

That's a fairly solid championship team with just one new signing and losing Marshall, Caulker, Medel, Mutch and Noone seeing as we made double what QPR made this season and if we actually lost those 5 players we'd get some good cash we'd be ok. It's be up to Ole to bring in a new CB, CM winger and striker really.

What about that new Spanish striker who signed a pre contract agreement ?

Joe Ralls is probably better than Eikrem, so Whitts is divisions better than him especially in the championship.

Kadeem Harris was tearing up trees before he was injured.

Turner is OK for the championship especially with OGS rotation (up against a bug un)

I don't think Noone will raise much interest. Marshall, Caulker, Mutch and Marshall are as good as gone. Cala probably has a relegation release clause.

Lewis is a decent keeper played well for Peterborough in this division also

Which Manager could we get to win promotion back....... Palace are a well organised Championship team and they just showed us we are too soft, and lightweight we are, and we don't have enough battle to break big strong teams down and win promotion, I am pretty worried after that .......

Couple of considerations, - 1 the squad is quite young so if we sell any of the stars we should get decent money - it's also BIG, Malky kept most of the team from last year and a load have been added. We've also got some good youngsters out on loan.
If the big names are sold it could net us £25-£30m

Look below and you'll see the majority of names from the title winning side. It's not a bad starting place.

Think the squad will look something like this

Keeper... Marshall will most likely go, so new keeper and Lewis

RB Brayford, KTC, McNaughton, Fabio - well at least 1 will need to go, always thought Fabio was a LB anyway

LB John, Taylor

CB Say Caulker goes , then its Hudson, Cala, Turner and Connolly (remember him )

Midfield - likely we'll lose Mutch and Medel, so left with Whitts, Cowie, Gunnar, Eikren, Daehli, Ralls, Noone, if he stays, Harris
Need 2 more

Strikers - Maynard, Jones, Campbell, Mason, Berget -need at least 1 more.

Probably forgot a couple too

Personally I would expect to see this squad put out next season with very little funding for strengthening and the fees received from the sale of Caulker, Medel, Mutch, and Marshall only being being reinvested if we were to get promoted.

Joe Lewis
Simon Moore
Matthew Connolly
Adedeji Oshilaja
Kevin McNaughton
John Brayford
Juan Cala
Kévin Théophile-Catherine
Andrew Taylor
Maximiliano Amondarain
Fabio
Declan John
Mark Hudson
Ben Nugent
Ben Turner
Kim Bo-Kyung
Magnus Wolff Eikrem
Craig Noone
Aron Gunnarsson
Don Cowie
Joe Ralls
Tommy O'Sullivan
Mats Møller Dæhli
Peter Whittingham
Kenwyne Jones
Fraizer Campbell
Joe Mason
Craig Bellamy ( Player/coach capacity)
Jo Inge Berget
Nicky Maynard
Kadeem Harris
Rhys Healey

We need good club men in the Championship. Blokes like Whittingham, Hudson, Kev.

Next season will be difficult after this shambles. The owners, chairman, and manager are clueless. We're in free fall at the moment. To be honest, it will be a steadying the ship job next year, like Malky's first season.

Ole needs to do the decent thing, and walk away quietly. The sooner the better. Get a decent Championship manager in. Somebody like McDermott, if he leaves Leeds, or Billy Davies.

The last paragraph of that is hilariously bad. Ole is on a learning curve and the club needs to top down sort it's act out. But sticking with a manager is what should be done. Nigel Pearson case and point.

Think afe of those will go, or not feature. Will Healey, O'Sullivan, Amondairin, Nugent or Olishija be involved ?

I certainly forgot Kimbo and Moore who could become 1st choice- I'd expect Bellamy to retire.

It's still a fairly big squad.

Lewis
KTC Huds Turner Fabio

Noone Whits Gunnar Mats

Maynard Campbell

Subs : Moore, Connolly, John, Eikrem, Kim, Harris, Mason

Not a bad team but we'd need more players for depth

I would like to see John played as a winger next season. Without Zaha, Noone and Bellamy, I think he'll get a chance. It would be good to see Kadeem back too.

My reformed side:

Moore

KTC Cala Hudson Fabio

Harris Whitts/Eikrem Gunnar/Ralls John

Dæhli/Kim

Campbell/Berget/Guerra

If Guerra does come to city, I think there are good striking options along with Mason, Maynard and Healey

Moore I think will be a good GK for us and could be a regular for years to come.

Defensive options look a bit lightweight, so a few additions wouldn't go amiss. Turner was woeful today and constant long balls were embarrassing. I think bray ford will also be recalled for next season.

Gunnar is a good championship player and will be a very experienced head along with Whitts. It will be essential that we have a good mixture of old and young.

All in all, there is enough in the squad at this moment for a good championship assault next season.

Agree on Warnock if you want a strong physically organised team differcult to beat and fights to the end.

A 'learning curve'? That's hilariously bad! Nigel Pearson is a very good manager, who knows the Championship. That's what we need. Then stick with him.
