Kurt Cobain

Fri Apr 04, 2014 1:21 pm

Non Cardiff/Football related but tomorrow is the 20 years death anniversary of Kurt Cobain. What a great talent he was. I wasn't even alive when he died, I was born one year after but I have been a HUGE fan of Nirvana  R.I.P Kurt :ayatollah:

Same, I used to like a bit of Nirvana which was pretty much the only rock I'd tolerate at the time barring Stone Roses, Led Zepellin etc.

appriciate that he was very good and did a lot for the grunge movement, but honestly can't see the huge fuss over him (neither could anyone else until after he dies, i think i heard that the sales of nevermind between 1994-1995 were 5x more than between 1991-1994). I get the feeling that had he not died he would have either sold out or faded away as a musician. But its impossible to say i suppose

one thing i dont get is why people cant accept that he killed himself. All the signs were there and yet people didn't want to believe it

I was strictly into the rave scene when Nirvana came out, then one day in 98, i moved a friend into her new flat, and the last owner left the house empty except a shitty cd player containing Nevermind. with tonnes of unpacking to do and no DJ Mickey Finn, i gave it a listen.....WOW I THOUGHT.....WHAT A PILE OF OVER RATED SHITE :o

Nah top band. Is he a genius? Not sure, doubt it. Jackson C frank was a genius though.

To be fair, Vincent Van Gogh could only sell one painting while he was alive, are you going to say he wasn't upto much either?

well the culture of celebrity was a bit different then.

i'm not saying he was bad at all but i can't see why he gets so much more recognition than so many other artists of the genre/era

very few people agree with me...but i always prefered Hole

Its where the south wales roid head movement started.

No denying they were a great band, the unplugged album is excellent. I remember they were due to play the. CIA not long after he died so never got to see them. Far superior to the copycat grunge shite the movement spawned ! Try Teenage Fanclub, they were better.

Re: Kurt Cobain

All apologies is a good song . not fussed on any of the other songs they made, I understand they appealed to the "high school outcast" type scene, but they ain't my cuppa tea. Depressing slit your wrists type music.

Re: Kurt Cobain

Fri Apr 04, 2014 3:20 pm

It is going to great when being a roided up tangerine goes out of fashion and it begins being publically laughed at.

They'll look like a right bunch of wallys.

---------------------------------

I wouldn't say Nirvana is music to slit your wrists to. It is just music for people that are aware that not everything in life is all peaches and cream. People that listen to god awful, happy shit dance music need to have a look at themselves. Probably the same people that cry over the X Factor.

Coldplay used to be that, now look at them, f*cking shit!.

Dave Grohl still doing ok. He seems to keep turning up as a guest drummer with various groups, as well as still going strong with the Foo Fighters. He wrote some of the Nirvana music when he was their drummer.

Re: Kurt Cobain

Originally I was never sure how good Nirvana were. This confirmed to me how good they really were:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fregObNcHC8

Any band can be made to sound good on a CD. Put them on stage in an unplugged session and that is the true test.
