Will our goal difference send us down?

Mon Mar 31, 2014 8:44 pm

It's so tight down there I think our goal difference could send us down. We may end up on the same points as either Norwich or west brom, sending us down with Fulham and Sunderland.

Very possible

I fear that will be the case, have thought that for a long time.

We have leaked goals all season, personally I think its due to our lack of quality at right and left back, and we could of done with another decent DM.

If we finish on the same points total as Norwich then their goal difference should be worse than ours, as its only a six goal swing anybody else and we're fucked

Yes suppose sp :thumbright: still don't look good, I think west brom really was a must win looking at the league.

Think it might be on the number of goals scored then. That's how PNE beat us to the playoffs in 2009, if my memory serves me right.

In 09/10 Wigan stayed up with a -42 GD. In the same year 31 points would have kept you in the premier league.

Crazy stat. Where does the magic 40 point come from? Seems less to me

The magic 40 point mark has become a mythical target mainly created by managers of premier league sides outside of the 'top six' as a target for survival . I haven't fully researched it but I believe the average to stay up is around 34/35 points. :thumbright:

Goal difference is big but look at Norwichs games, could easily get a few hammering.

Peraonally I think the survival total will go down again over the next few seasons as the top 8 get more and more powerful.

I agree. I believe it is mathematically possible to stay up with 8 points providing you have a superior GD? :laughing6:

We will go down but I don't think goal difference will play any part in it. Finishing 19th is going to be our main problem.

Norwich are only 7 goals better than us yet they have to play Liverpool, Man U, Chelsea and Arsenal and if we are to get the wins required our goal difference should improve. Sunderland still have to play Spurs, Man C + U and Chelsea away, plus Cardiff and Everton at home, so they could also be on a worse goal difference.

Possible but we'd have to rely on Norwich conceding quite a few goals.

but they have already got 6 more points than us.....Thats 2 wins! How many games have we won this season?
I believe (after looking at all the fixtures) whoever loses in Cardiff on the weekend will go down. If a draw then we will need some luck sometime
